Studio Headphones

Studio headphones are used for producing & mixing music and also monitoring whilst recording, called 'tracking' . Mixing requires an even tonal balance with a high detail level for best translation, mostly from open back models which prioritise accuracy against isolation, whilst tracking headphones are closed back to prevent spill into mics. Weight and comfort are a key priority, as are often worn for long sessions. There are 2 main types of driver, 'planar magnetic' models often have low distortion & high perceived detail, but are unlikely to have loud, prominent bass, which is often found in closed back 'dynamic' models. Users should consider impedance and sensitivity, when considering suitability with an amp or interface.
