SPL - 'Phonitor One'
Audiophile Headphone Amplifier

spl phonitor one

Number One In SoundIntroducing the Phonitor One, SPL have incorporated both experience and technical knowledge into the Series One. Two Burr-Brown OPA 2134 SoundPlus™ operational amplifiers deliver the pre-amplification. These are designed especially for audiophile circuits and are characterized by the very low noise and minimal distortion of just 0.00008%.

Due to a true FET stage, the OPA 2134 reaches a slew rate of 20V/µs, making it a high-speed operational amplifier. This has an instant positive impact on the liveliness of the playback.

Low capacitance film capacitors are also integrated in the signal path as bypass capacitors of the coupling capacitors, which guarantees a more precise transmission of the high-frequency signal components. The fantastic Panasonic ‘Electric Double Layer’ gold electrolytic capacitors are used as coupling capacitors. These deliver the highest storage capacity of all capacitor technologies.

Amazing Features • Phonitor Matrix, with adjustable crossfeed allows you to create mixes with headphones that sound the same on speakers
• Sources such as a DA-converter, CD-player, mixer, synthesizer or an analog tape machine/tape deck can be connected
• The low-drop operating voltage regulation delivers more power and regulates cleanly
• The bipolar transistors produce a higher gain and a higher output

The Power Amplifier

Consistent SoundThe output section of the headphone amplifier is made as a push-pull amplifier in class AB mode. The bipolar transistors share the amplification of the positive and negative half-waves, which delivers a higher gain and a higher output voltage than in Class A operation, where only one transistor amplifies both half-waves.

The output stage transistors are thermally coupled and as a restul run particularly coherently, which adds to a consistent and stable sound image. The power supply has a buffer circuit with low source resistance, making sure generous current reserves even when operating low-impedance headphones.

The Revolution

Identical MixesThe Phonitor Matrix is found in the headphone amplifier, with adjustable crossfeed which allows you to create mixes with headphones that sound identical on speakers. The Phonitor Matrix in its largest expansion stage has three setting parameters: Crossfeed, Speaker Angle and Center Level.

In the Phonitor One, the center level is preset to -1 dB and the speaker angle to 30° which are the most commonly used values. The crossfeed setting determines the crosstalk of the channels, the so-called interaural level difference. The intensity of the crossfeed is fully changeable.

At the start of the control path the function is not in the audio path. It is only switched on by adding it via relay (hysteresis circuit). This means the audio signal does not pass through the crossfeed stage unless you want it to.

Two Line Inputs

Versatile ConnectivityThe connectivity found on the Phonitor One includes two analog stereo inputs. Sources like a DA-converter, CD-player, mixer, synthesizer or an analog tape machine/tape deck can be connected to the either the inputs balanced (TRS jacks) or unbalanced (RCA) analog line inputs.

If you wish to connect your computer, tablet or phone directly, the Phonitor One d with USB input and a state-of-the-art 32-bit DA-converter will be able to accommodate this for you.

The Power Supply

More PowerAll good sound requires good, reliable power. Although the Phonitor One comes with a 12 V plug-in power supply unit, the secondary power supply inside creates a voltage level of +/-17 Volts for the analog audio sections with which professional levels of up to +22.5 dB can be reached.

A low-drop operating voltage regulation delivers more power and regulates cleanly even when the maximum operation voltage is reached. The Phonitor One offers full power when used with the included 1.5 A power supply. Just the 12 V plug-in power supply unit within the scope of delivery. The ON-switch puts the Phonitor One into operation.
