Commitment to achieving Net Zero
Scan Computers is committed to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.
Baseline/Current Emissions Footprint
Baseline emissions are a record of the greenhouse gases that have been produced in the past and were produced prior to the introduction of any strategies to reduce emissions. Baseline emissions are the reference point against which emissions reduction can be measured.
Baseline Year: 2020
Additional Details relating to the Baseline Emissions calculations
We measure and report on energy use and carbon emissions in compliance with SECR covering energy use and associated emissions relating to gas and electricity and other fuels with intensity ratios and information relating to energy efficiency actions. SECR reporting is implemented in the Companies (Directors’ Report) and Limited Liability Partnerships (Energy and Carbon Report) Regulations 2018.
It is the first year that Scan has reported on its energy and carbon usage and as such historical energy consumption figures and associated Carbon dioxide equivalent (C02e) emissions have been omitted and not disclosed. SECR Year 1 energy consumption figures will be set as baseline year and will be used to show the energy consumption and C02e trends in future reporting years Energy Consumption and Greenhouse Gas Emissions for the financial year to 30th June 2020 are shown below:
Scope 1 - Direct Emissions
Scope 2 - Energy Indirect
Scope 3 - Indirect Other
Total Emissions
346.71 (tC02e)2021 Emissions
As stated for our baseline year, our emissions are measured in line with the GHG Protocol. The emissions factors used were the 2020 figures released by the UK Government.
Scope 1 - Direct Emissions
Scope 2 - Energy Indirect
Scope 3 - Indirect Other
Total Emissions
403.37 (tC02e)
We have followed the 2019 HM Government Environmental Reporting Guidelines. We have also used the GHG Reporting Protocol - Corporate Standard and have used the 2020 UK Government's Conversion Factors for Company Reporting.
Total annual energy consumption usage has been calculated, based on recorded consumption data for the financial year to 30 June 2020. This period complies with the legislation and is deemed as the SECR Year 1 reporting period.
The energy consumption has been collected from verifiable sources with any missing data being estimated.
Transport analysis has been based on mileage claims assuming each vehicle was an average car and DEFRA conversion factors were used.
The chosen intensity measurement ratio is total gross emissions in metric tonnes C02e per occupied floor area, the recommended ratio for the sector.
Emissions Reduction Targets
Scan is actively looking to reduce its energy consumption and associated greenhouse gas emissions. All key environmental policies affecting our industry are adhered to and audited in line with our ISO accreditation.
The primary focus was given to the following areas:
- Installation of energy-efficient LED fittings and improving the lighting controls.
- Actively promoting and utilising video/audio conferencing facilities (Microsoft Teams) and 'home working', resulting in a substantial reduction in travel and associated greenhouse gas emissions.
- The key energy use is Electricity and this is sourced using 100% renewable electricity.
- Scan also recycles and re-uses all our incoming packaging whilst making all paper transactions digital.
Scan is also currently planning to implement additional actions, such as:
- Formal energy efficiency staff awareness training.
- Setting annual energy and CHG emissions reduction targets.04
