10+ Drive Bay Rackmount Network Attached Storage Systems

Network attached storage (NAS) devices are easily expandable and secure data storage devices. They usually feature multiple drives, RAID protection options and hot-swap capabilities for reducing down time should drive failure occur. Software-powered features vary depending on the operating system included, and the processor and memory onboard, but may include automated backups, remote access, VPN, encryption, snapshots and advanced RAID configurations. Rackmount units may also feature multiple network ports, up to 10Gb/s connectivity, redundant power supplies and the ability to connect additional disk shelves to expand capacity.

These rackmount NAS devices hold 12 to 60 drives in a 2U to 4U space. Fully populated units allow RAID levels of 0, 1, 5, 6 , 10, 50 and 60 on to be configured on most models. Scan recommends using NAS-optimised hard disk drives (HDDs) in these enclosures as the vibration generated from multiple drives spinning can reduce lifespan in standard HDDs.
