3XS Project DAW
This specification was originally designed and built for singer-songwriter & performer Jon Gomm, who’s renowned for his percussive techniques on acoustic guitar. Often capturing and streaming performances online of his intricate playing style, there was a requirement for not only a system capable of recording and processing audio but also with the need for great video handling and all within a whisper quiet package.
We’ve based the system around the superb Fractal North case, where its design introduces natural materials and wood finishes to offer a case that stands out visually as well as it performs. With an open high airflow design, we can go a step further and remove the stock case fans, whilst its layout continues to help ensure that our convection-based cooling can still naturally allow the air to circulate within the system.
To drive the set-up, we choose an AMD 7900 CPU, notable for its high-performance and low power draw even under the heaviest of loads. The CPU’s low power requirement allows us to run it passively, matched here with a fanless Noctua NH-P1 cooler, offering a great combination that cools effectively with no added system noise.
To take care of the video handling, we’ve selected a NVIDIA 5070 GPU with 12GB to run any heavy editing sessions. The card is semi-passive, spinning down the fans when under lighter processing loads, perfect for recording close by with sensitive microphones, whilst still ensuring it can spin up to support more intensive video editing tasks in post-production.
Storage is taken care of with two high-performance NVMe SSD drives totalling 3TB of capacity and a healthy 64GB of RAM, ensuring its capable of tackling even the largest of multi-media projects. With another pair of RAM slots, up to two more NVMe and four possible additional SSD drives, you can be sure that as your needs continue to grow, this system will continue to offer you a number of further upgrade options to help customize your setup as required.
Complete with a fully passive Seasonic PSU the only moving component outside of the semi-passive GPU, is a single low RPM be quiet Silent Wings 4 fan, itself with an advised noise rating reaching just 13db under full load. This fan helps to pull the air up through the system and pass the GPU, ensuring great circulation without any distracting noise coming from within the system.
The overall choice of parts results in a unique combination that gives you an extremely low noise design, along with a selection of high-performance components that result in the perfect system to tackle any task in a modern recording studio.
The models found in our ready to ship series are all fully tested and configured to ensure the widest compatibility possible with common studio software programs, and to ensure the smoothest of experiences when running your studios crucial studio applications. During this initial validation phase, we test with all the popular audio sequencers including industry leaders such as Cubase, Pro Tool, Sonar, Studio One, Ableton, Bitwig, Reaper and FL Studio in order to ensure the widest compatibility straight out of the box. This means that once you receive your system, you will be able to set it up along with your audio interface & software of choice and be ready to go with the absolute minimum of fuss.
