How AI is helping the Healthcare Industry

Video

Artificial intelligence is making improvements to processes in all industries, but its use in Healthcare really has the ground-breaking potential to not only improve patient care, but to also save countless lives. With AI, Doctors can tackle interoperable data, meet the increasing demand for personalised medicine and next-generation clinics, develop intelligent applications unique to their workflows, and accelerate areas such as image analysis, scientific research and drug discovery. Ultimately, AI has the power to transform the Healthcare industry for the betterment of all.

Below are some real life uses cases showing how Scan is working with our customers to bring AI to the forefront on the Healthcare industry:

DGX Service

KCL London Medical Imaging & AI Centre for Value-Based Healthcare

Phase 5 – Update of the KCL ClusterFollowing the successful launch of DGX PODs across the multiple federated learning sites, it was decided that the master KCL DGX cluster should be relocated to a London datacentre from improved management and monitoring. The Scan AI team undertook a project to transport and install the high availability DGX cluster hardware into new racking, configure the NetApp A800 storage system and update the NVIDIA network switches.

Once the hardware was in position and tested, further work was undertaken to reconfigure the Kubernetes software and deploy a new install of the Run:ai Atlas GPU virtualisation platform.

The success of combining the DGX A100 with Run:ai’s virtualisaton platform is unprecedented. So, to simplify the installation of these two solutions, Scan AI is now offering a Run:ai MLOPs Computer Platform (MCP) and NVIDIA DGX Systems bundle.

Bering, iCAIRD & NHS Greater Glasgow & Clyde

Implementation of AI in the detection of COVID-19Bering has developed an AI algorithm to identify common signs in chest X-ray images, indicating numerous medical diagnoses. This has been rolled out in Scotland via a number of collaborative partners, including iCAIRD & NHS GCC, allowing radiologists to free up their time and focus on rarer abnormal cases withing the 40 million images they see each year.

In 2020 Scan CEO, Elan Raja, expressed and interested in helping Bering to take their research forward. Within a number of weeks, a collaboration had been finalised and Scan AI was engaging with Bering to provide access to a NVIDIA DGX appliance to help process the huge volume of X-ray.

Accelerating protein-based drug discovery using computational molecular physics.

With Peptone, NVIDIA and Verne GlobalPeptone is a computational molecular physics company that has used AI methods to analyse the anomalous behaviour of proteins and has developed the Protein Engineering Operating System (PeOS).

Peptone approached the Scan AI team to help find it a solution to deliver significant but cost-effective GPU-accelerated compute resource. Scan AI helped Peptone unlock the potential of its research by running its deep neural network models on a NVIDIA DGX A100 system. Working together with Scan, the next task was to find a datacentre facility equipped to host and support this highly specialised equipment. In addition, with privacy and security top-of-mind for Peptone’s pharmaceutical customers, there was a reluctance to place this valuable, proprietary data in the cloud. One of Scan’s datacentre partners, Verne Global, was identified as a provider that could fulfil all these criteria.

NVIDIA DGX H100The ultimate AI infrastructure system

Icon FIND OUT MORE >

The newest DGX is named for its use of H100 GPUs based on the Hopper architecture. This marks a significant departure from earlier DGXs which shared the same underlying GPU architecture as other contemporary NVIDIA GPUs. In contrast Hopper is designed exclusively for AI workloads, so is an order of magnitude faster.
