AMD 3rd generation Ryzen Threadripper CPUs feature improved performance over 1st gen and 2nd CPUs and up to 32 cores with SMT technology and so can process up to 64 threads in parallel. This makes these ultra high-end processors ideal for heavily multi-threaded applications such as video encoding and 3D rendering or running lots of applications at once. These multi-core CPUs support ultra-fast quad-channel DDR4 memory and with 64 PCI-E lanes can support multiple graphics cards and other devices such as RAID controllers, sound cards. These high-end CPUs use the special Socket TR4X and require a motherboard based on the AMD TRX40 chipset.
