From the classic ‘Plexi’, through to the iconic ‘AC’ amps, the versatility and authenticity of the sounds inside this stompbox are truly impressive!

A Wealth of Iconic British Tone

classic british overdrive The Crown works fantastically well when used to bring that ‘crunch’ and overdriven sound to an amp at a lower volume, or in bringing the classic British sound to any other amplifier. Tsakalis’s Crown overdrive utilises JFET technology (junction gate field-effect transistor) and from combining three calibrated stages in cascade mode, the resulting tone is a beautifully smooth, creamy, tube-like crunch.

The Crown’s front panel is adorned in typically British graphics and has a simple 3 knob layout, comprising of ‘Level’, ‘Color’ and ‘Drive’. Tsakalis included a further two toggle switches, each labelled ‘Fat’ and ‘Hot’. Tweaking the ‘Color’ knob will determine the style of amplifier, for example a Plexi when in dialled around 10 o’clock, through to an AC at around 3 o’clock. The Crown really comes to life when we blend this with the ‘Drive’ control, there’s some fantastic settings and sweet-spots to be found here.
