Intel Branding Part I
Intel Branding Part I
Date Issued: 1st Jul 2009

Intel’s been on a mission of late. That mission revolves around grouping and standardising key technologies under various banners that are designed to ensure hardware compatibility and consumer ease of use. We’ll take a closer look at three such technologies that fall under the headings of Centrino, Viiv, and vPro, respectively.

The modern PC is potentially a mass of heat output and heat production hot spots. With CPUs rated at more than 100W of heat output, single graphics boards carrying similar ratings (and people want to run two!), multiple hard drives the norm, lots of memory and mainboards covered in heatpipes to combat toasty core logic and PWM circuits, a PC appreciably warming up a room when it’s working hard is no joke.

Date Issued: 14th Jun 2008

There’s been a lot of hype about Intel’s Core 2 recently, even since they launched Core in fact. Words like Conroe, Badaxe and Allendale have been flying around. The bottom line is that Core 2 is the name of Intel’s latest line of CPUs, based on a new micro-architecture, designed for speed and efficiency.

Date Issued: 5th Mar 2007

Anybody who has been near their share of computer systems will appreciate that not all systems make the same amount of noise. There are a number of reasons for why this is so. Firstly, a computer makes noise for different reasons. Generally, anything mechanical is going to make noise.

Scythe Shuriken Rev.B Quiet Low Profile Cooler 3 Heat Pipe - HTPC Ready AMD/Intel CPU is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does exactly what I needed it to do I bought this whilst I was putting a new system together. I was only pairing this with a mid-range Haswell i5, but I knew from several reputable sources that the stock Intel heatsink & fan combo was sufficient, but with little regard to noise and only mediocre cooling performance. I'm not in love with large air coolers, especially as I'm not overclocking. I needed a quiet, inexpensive cooler that wouldn't force me into contortions whilst fitting it or putting the rest of my system together. The Scythe Shuriken has been absolutely perfect in every regard. It's extremely quiet and it is nicely compact. It also outperforms the stock Intel cooler. However, as I'm not overclocking, this last point wasn't a major concern, but it did say a lot about the cooler's overall efficiency. Simple to fit and easy on the pocket, I cannot think of a better cooler for the workhorse I've put together. I've just spent 5 days on a render job and I had no trouble sleeping in the same room as the PC. The loudest thing in the room was a still very quiet external 2.5" HD. Only the faintest whisper of air could be heard from the PC itself.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality low profile cooler Running the A10 7850K, the cpu was on the verge of bursting into flames with the stock cooler anytime I loaded a reasonably modern game (Warface for example), however after several temp warnings, I bought this cooler and haven't looked back. The temps are more than reasonable for a small ITX case with limited airflow. I paired it with a couple of Noctua fans on the exhaust and now it takes some seriously long full load gaming to even reach the 50's. Would highly recommend this cooler.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Used Several of These A very good and most importantly, very quiet cooler. Used several of these in an HTPC and other PCs.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Well manufactured, low profile, great cooling, not so quiet Well packaged, great instructions, clips for every motherboard under the sun and fitted well even some free silicone heat sink paste. Has lowered my 939 older AMD (in small HTPC case now) temp down 4-5 degrees from stock cooler but I find it just as noisy. I would be temped to recommend this for a MATX build where space is tight in small case and ideal for older 939 boards where good coolers are hard to find but perhaps not best HTPC cooler.
