Product Overview

Award-winning NH-U12 series

The NH-U12S is the latest version of Noctua's award-winning NH-U12 coolers. First introduced in 2005, the NH-U series has become a standard choice for premium quality quiet CPU coolers and won more than 400 awards and recommendations from leading international hardware websites and magazines.

100% RAM Compatibility

Thanks to its slim design with only 45mm fin depth, the NH-U12S will not overhang the RAM slots even with two fans installed. This gives the user full access to the memory modules on all current CPU sockets and guarantees 100% compatibility with tall heatspreaders or optional memory fans.

Classic 120mm Tower Size for Excellent Overall Compatibility

Standing 158mm tall, the NH-U12S is short enough to fit most modern mid- or high-end tower cases. Measuring 125mm wide (including fan and fan clips), the cooler stays clear of the top PCIe slot on standard ATX or Micro-ATX motherboards, ensuring best compatibility with SLI and CrossFire setups.

NF-F12 120mm Focused Flow™ Fan

Recommended by more than 150 hardware publications and thousands of enthusiasts world-wide, the Noctua's premium quality NF-F12 Focused Flow™ 120mm fan is renowned to combine superb static pressure, excellent heatsink performance and surprising quietness of operation.

PWM Support and Low-Noise Adaptor

The NF-F12 120mm fan supplied with the NH-U12S supports PWM for convenient automatic speed control through the mainboard. In addition, the maximum fan speed can be reduced from 1500 to 1200rpm using the supplied Low-Noise Adaptor for even quieter operation.

Anti-Vibration Pads and Fan-Clips for Second NF-F12

For users who want to achieve even better performance by adding a second, optional (not included) NF-F12 fan to create a push/pull setup, the NH-U12S includes fan clips and an extra set of custom-designed anti-vibration pads that allow to off-set the rear fan by 5mm to improve acoustics in dual-fan mode.

SecuFirm2™ Mounting System

Noctua's SecuFirm2™ mounting systems have become synonymous with quality, safety and ease of use. Supporting Intel LGA115x (LGA1150, LGA1151, LGA1155, LGA1156), LGA2011 and AMD (AM3+, AM2+, FM1, FM2, FM2+), the SecuFirm2™ mounting included with the NH-U12S guarantees perfect contact pressure and maximum convenience on all current sockets.

Compatibility with Past and Future Sockets

Complying with the open SecuFirm™ standard, the NH-U12S can be made compatible with the older LGA1366 and LGA775 sockets using the optional NM-I3 mounting kit, which is provided by Noctua free of charge. If technically possible, Noctua will also provide upgrade kits for future sockets.

NT-H1 Thermal Compound

Having received more than 100 awards and recommendations from hardware journalists around the world, Noctua's NT-H1 is a proven professional grade TIM solution that provides minimum thermal resistance, excellent ease of use and outstanding reliability.

Features
• NH-U12S Cooler Unit.
• NF-F12 PWM premium fan.
• Low-Noise Adaptor (L.N.A.).
• NT-H1 high-grade thermal compound.
• SecuFirm2™ Mounting Kit.
• Anti-vibration pads and fan-clips for second NF-F12.
• Noctua Metal Case-Badge.

Please note: Some AMD mainboards violate the 96x114mm keep-out zone specified by AMD, so the NH-U12S can only be used with RAM modules of up to 40mm height on these boards.

The modern PC is potentially a mass of heat output and heat production hot spots. With CPUs rated at more than 100W of heat output, single graphics boards carrying similar ratings (and people want to run two!), multiple hard drives the norm, lots of memory and mainboards covered in heatpipes to combat toasty core logic and PWM circuits, a PC appreciably warming up a room when it’s working hard is no joke.

Noctua NH-U12S Ultra Quiet Single Tower CPU Cooler, 5 Heatpipes, 120mm PWM Fan, for Intel/AMD Processors is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Watercooled CPU fan Fairly easy to fit with clear fittings for a second fan being attached. It is certainly doing the job it was purchased for so I can only recommend it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from excellent C P U cooler very easy to install keeps my AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core @ 4.07GHz at 55c and below even when gaming very happy highly recommended

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quiet This cooler was easy to install and it is quiet. The fan will run as slow as 200 rpm. It seems to do a good job of keeping an i5-9600K cool (stock settings - I have not yet tried overclocking). I am happy with this cooler.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beast of a CPU cooler No problems with this at all. Upgrade from an Intel cooler, temps went from 79 underload, to 56 max. Installation was so easy (even for a new builder like myself) quality of the overall cooler and fan is top notch! But with noctua that is a given. Super fast delivery too.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent quality My second one of these... Very good quality, easy robust fittings, quiet fan. I added another identical fan to ensure my i7 CPU stays cool. Works well. I considered water cooling but too many dodgy reviews for me. Keep it simple ruled in the end.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Don't be put off by the cost, it's very effective! Was hitting over 70'c on a stock FX6300. This brought it down to under 50'c on load when OC'd. They include attachments for another fan if you want more cooling power but I've not tried yet. Don't use High Profile RAM with this though! (The ones with coolers on them)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cool and quiet It has been a long going debate for me to decide whether to go liquid or air. I opted for air in the end, as I had no idea what happens with a liquid cooler if the pump goes; with air cooling you still have a giant heat sink on top of your cpu so this feels safer after all (also don't like the thought of liquid inside the case). I've checked out a lot of these coolers, Noctua became the winning one for two very important reasons: - RAM clearance: it is true as it says in the ad, with this cooler you will have access to all your RAM slots. - ease of installation: many great coolers seemed to have the problem of complicated installation that gave hard work even to professional builders (eg the black rock), and I am not one of those. I couldn't believe how easy it was to install, everything fit perfectly and was simply a joy to put it all together. Take care when you install your motherboard though: I have a cut out on my case (NZXT Phantom) to install a cooler, however the hole was in the wrong position and didn't let me install the backplate of the cooler, so had to remove the motherboard. Once the sink is on, the fans clip on easily. I went for a dual fan layout; although I have to admit it is not really necessary, according to tests adding the 2nd fan will only make 2-3C difference in cpu temperature. It operates quietly, you will hear it when it's running at high speeds, but not disturbing at all. Have to mention the outstanding quality of the whole package. The heat sink looks great and of high quality - the surface going on the cpu is the smoothest piece of metal I've ever seen. The mounting kit is sturdy and of proper materials. Everything was boxed professionally, and you get all the little bits you will ever need - this includes larger spacers if you wanna install a 2nd fan, mounting kit for both intel and amd motherboards, thermal paste, wires etc. Considering the top quality of the kit, I think the price is very reasonable, I can only recommend it! .
Date published: 2015-09-21
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely quiet Very quiet, even at load very easy to install that doesn't require removing the back plate.

Hello

Hi, I am looking at purchasing this cooler but am ideally looking for a dual fan cooler. Will I be able to add another 120mm fan from Noctua to attach it to the other side to do this? Thanks
Asked by: FreakGBR
Yup. They include the rubber attachments for anti vibration and clips for another fan to be placed on the opposite side.

Do you now get the fixings for AMD4 as well as the others

I notice they have an SE model purely for the AMD4, I thought they also included it in this model but doesn't list them in description
Asked by: Jasper82
Having just purchased this model I can confer that it does have the fixings for AM4

Will the Corsair DDR3 Vengeance Pro Series fit under the Noctua NH-U12S Slim?

There's no information on the height of the Corsair DDR3 Vengeance Pro Series, or what the clearance room is for the Noctua NH-U12S Slim - can you guys assist?
Asked by: aires69uk
Hi its quite hard to tell; from above it looks like the fans leave the RAM slots completely clear. I don't know how wide and tall the Vengeance Pro series rams are; I installed normal Vengeance rams, they seem to have about about 1.5cm clearance till the fan (can't really say an accurate measurement, its hard to see from that angle. Please check out the photos) The good thing about this cooler is that you can place the fan wherever you want. If you need more ram clearance, you can move the fan further up on the sink; or if you only use one fan, you can put it on the other side of the sink, this will definitely leave enough space for any ram as the sink is indeed slim. Best wishes Tiv

Hello, It would be impossible to tell what overclock you could get on your CPU because it is down to many factors to do with your PC. Thanks,
