Delay and Reverb Pedal
KMA Machines - Cirrus
'SPATIAL-TEMPORAL MODIFIER' The Cirrus ‘Spatial-Temporal Modifier’ from KMA is the manufacturers first foray into the fully digital realm. The Cirrus is a combined delay and reverb pedal, which is certainly nothing like you’ve encountered before. This machine really does have all the tools you need to blast off into space.
Jump Down the Sonic Wormhole
You could be forgiven for thinking the Cirrus looks a little intimidating at first glance, however, things soon become much clearer. Firstly, the pedal is split into a Delay side, and a Reverb side. Each side has it’s own basic controls you might expect to find on any other delay/reverb pedal, such as ‘Time’, a ‘Repeat’ function for the delay side and ‘Decay’ for the reverb side. These controls will be familiar to those used to similar pedals. However, that's where the similarities end...
Much more than meets the eye KMA have given us not one, not two, but three different Delay and Reverb modes. Each of these different modes covers hugely different modulated areas. Furthermore, each of these has it’s own dynamic feature which is controlled by the attack of the pick. Can you imagine the possibilities here? Flick the Delay’s ‘MOD’ switch (Modulated Delay Mode) switches between ‘Sample and Hold’ mode which adds a sequencer similar to a filter in front of the Delay line, and ‘OCT’ which adds to the signal a high octave whilst your original dry signal decays. The outcome and potential for these modes are truly something special. These are the kinds of tools which allow musicians the creativity to create unique sounds.
Your Reverb, Your Delay, However You Like It Moving over to the Reverb side, we find the same MOD switch (Modulated Reverb Mode). Sitting next to this is a Low-Pass Filter (LP) and High-Pass Filter (HP). These are again controlled by pick attack. Picking harder will open up the Low-Pass Filter and will have those glassy shimmering high frequencies cutting through, conversely, the closing High-Pass Filter will cut the lower frequencies when the pick attacks dynamic is harder. Many guitarists like to play around with the order of their pedals in the chain. KMA have allowed us further room to experiment here by adding an 'Order' switch to the Cirrus. Simply switch to 'Reverb' to run the Delay into Reverb, and flick the switch again for the reverse.
