Drew Shirley of ‘Switchfoot’ fame and the guys at Jackson Audio have collaborated to create the ‘Belle Starr’, a wonderfully transparent overdrive pedal which authentically replicates the characteristic of a low-watt tube amplifier. Taking its name from the Wild West’s most infamous female outlaw, the ‘Belle Starr’ is a rootin-tootin 4-knob pedal, featuring a ‘Gain’ control for precise dialling in of drive, ‘Body’ and ‘Tone’ controls for shaping of the highs and lows, and a master Volume knob.
The ‘Belle Starr’ works well at the beginning of your pedal boards chain, and you’ll soon notice an injection of rich harmonics in your sound. If you’re serious about tone, it’s got to be the ‘Belle Starr’!

natural amp-like driveCo-founder of Jackson Audio, ‘Brad Jackson’ is a man well versed in building amplifiers, so it’s fair to say he knows a thing or two about amp-style overdrive. During the development stage of the ‘Belle Starr’, Brad and Drew decided on a MOSFET transistor for the clipping stage, as opposed to traditional silicon diodes typically found in overdrive pedals.
The MOSFET showcases a smooth drive voicing, which sweeps effortlessly between clean and medium gain tones and ensures your notes are clear and discernible, even when cranked to the max!
Passive and Active Tone Shaping
+/-15dB boost/cutJackson’s ‘Belle Starr’ utilises a combination of active and passive EQs for versatile shaping of tone. The active ‘Body’ knob enables you to fine tune the low frequencies with a massive +/-15dB boost/cut. The ‘Tone’ control, is passive, and is based on the treble cut of famous British tube amps.
Each control includes a centre marking, for quick and easy resetting to the neutral position. A feature we thought was particularly handy!
