Fuzz Sustainar Pedal

Mega-Heavy ToneThe EarthQuaker Hizumitas was designed for the iconic guitarist Wata from the experimental band Boris, one of the heaviest Japanese bands ever! The trio of guitar sorceress Wata, drummer and vocalist Atsuo, and double-neck bassist, guitarist and vocalist Takeshi has almost 100 releases full of genre defying and mind-blowing music.
After nearly three decades together, Boris has infused doom, hardcore, thrash, noise-core, ambient, free improv, drone, psychedelia, and more into their epic discography. Boris are also known for their unique collaborations with similar adventurous artists, such as American Doom mongers Sunn O))), noise legends Merzbow, Keiji Haino, and Ian Astbury of The Cult.
Wata is always seen and heard on stage wielding her black Les Paul Custom, blending huge riffs with searing, fluid, or jaggedly melodic leads with controlled walls of feedback, often with help from an EBow. It's a combination of chaos and melody that has captured Boris fans worldwide and influenced many bands that continued their experimental sound. No other band sounds like Boris, and no other guitarist plays like Wata, which is what makes them so influential.

True To The Original

Unique CharacteristicsHizumitas is a faithful recreation of Wata's staple distortion pedal, the Elk BM Sustainar. The Elk is a Japanese version of the well renowned "Triangle" BMP. The designers at EQD tried multiple vintage BMP's during development and discovered that each pedal was wildly different and realized that they needed the original to truly capture the magic they wanted.
Wata graciously sent her beloved pedal halfway across the world, and EQD discovered that it had something unique the others didn't have: heavy saturation with a gritty edge and huge bottom while maintaining a clear and dynamic tone, with enough mids and top end to cut through any sludge. The team at EarthQuaker Devices have managed to build all of these characteristics into the Hizumitas.
Incredible Note Separation

Unexpected ClarityThis fuzz/distortion provides plenty of heavy distortion and smooth sustain and an underlying dirt that sounds like the speakers are on the verge of ripping apart whilst maintaining amazing and unexpected clarity from such an aggressive sounding pedal. The Sustain control has a vast range of saturation, allowing the smallest of changes to significantly affect the overall tone.
Hizumitas responds incredibly well to all types of pickups and playing dynamics. Your power chords will sound huge and heavy, and open chords will be dynamic with impressive note separation. Single note leads will come across smooth and powerful, especially using the neck pickup.
Huge Lows, Aggressive Mids & Cutting Highs

Versatile Tone ShapingThe Tone control can drastically shape the distortion together with the tone. Bass frequencies are boosted clockwise, and treble frequencies are boosted counter clockwise. The tone control can go from an aggressive mid-range grind to cutting highs as you turn it counterclockwise.
When you turn it clockwise, the mids become less present, the highs are tamed, brining a huge, thundering low end comes to the forefront. The Volume control offers massive output gain with unity at around 9-10 o'clock and past that, you'll hear and feel the full power of Hizumitas.
