BOSS MD-200

Every Modulation Effect In One Compact Unit
2020 saw the release of a new series of pedals from stompbox overlords BOSS, the ‘200’ series. This series marks a new generation of pedals that manages to condense ultra-advanced sound and versatility into a compact size. Despite the 200 series cutting-edge technology, BOSS have ensured the controls remain intuitive and operation is simple. Across the 200 series range, all pedals boast truly state-of-the-art audio quality with 32-bit AD/DA, 32-bit internal processing and 96kHz sampling rate, alongside support for additional control via expression pedals or MIDI.
Inheriting the complex and vastly powerful algorithms from Boss’s flagship MD-500, the new MD-200 is packing a broad spectrum of world-beating effects in one small, pedalboard friendly unit. Twelve differing modes deliver every modulation sound you could possibly need and then some, each of these effects is able to be deeply modified and customised.
Twelve Modulation Essentials in One Unit

modern classics and retro favourites onboardSmall in size but huge in sound, the MD-200 hands you every modulation effect in a unit so compact it’s hard to fathom how BOSS have managed this incredible feat. Popular effects from the BOSS range are all here, modern favourites and retro sounds, the MD-200 houses them all, phaser, flanger, rotary, vibrato and tremolo.
BOSS’s popular ‘Slicer’ delivers a whole host of superb rhythmic grooves, whilst the rich Overtone effect delivers huge octave sounds and truly individual sonic expression. There’s also a hugely palatable auto-wah onboard too, this makes for excellent fun once you’ve connected an expression pedal.
Dial in Sounds Fast

wonderfully simple and fantastically intuitiveDespite the MD-200 packing all this into such a small unit, BOSS have managed to keep the interface wonderfully simple and fantastically intuitive, this makes crafting and moulding your ideal sounds a piece of cake.
Use the MD-200’s dedicated parameters, it’s easy to tweak the rate, depth and level to your liking for any selected mode. It’s even possible to dial in tap-tempos and rates with a footswitch during your performance and visually set note subdivisions straight from the panel.
Furthermore, 3 extra parameter knobs dynamically change functions with each mode, providing extended tone shaping with no requirement to delve deep into menus.
Deep Real-Time Control

Deep control via MIDIIn its default mode, the MD-200’s multi-function footswitches control bypass, memory scrolling and tap-tempo functionalities, but it’s simple to assign different functions to these as per your requirements. External control is possible too by using footswitches or an expression pedal, and MIDI I/O is on hand too via the handy mini TRS inputs.
Through MIDI control, it’s possible to daisy-chain multiple pedals from the 200 series range and choose memories on all of them simultaneously, and even control a variety of functions from MIDI devices such as the ES-8 and ES-5 effects switchers.
Save and Recall Your Favorite SetupsThe MD-200 has 127 user memories alongside a real-time panel setting, handing you a total of 128 possible setups to choose from. Any range of consecutive memories and the panel setting is able to be selected for scrolling access from a footswitch. It’s even able to limit the scrolling range or assign memories directly to reduce time spent finding your desired sound. If you require even greater control, setups are able to be quickly recalled via program change messages from an external MIDI device.
A Visual Overview of the Powerful 'MD-200' from BOSS
BOSS MD-200Compact and mighty, the MD-200 gives you every key mod effect in a minimal footprint. Modern and vintage BOSS chorus effects are included, plus phaser, flanger, rotary, vibrato, and tremolo. Classic vibe and ‘70s phaser effects are also available, complete with selectable distortion for added versatility.
BOSS’s famous Slicer delivers lots of cool rhythmic grooves, while the rich Overtone effect dishes up fat octave tones and unique sonic colors. There’s a highly adjustable auto wah as well, which can double as a foot wah when an expression pedal is connected.
