BOSS - 'DS-1'
A BENCHMARK IN DISTORTIONThe BOSS DS-1 Distortion is a true legend in the world of guitar effects. First released in 1978, BOSS’s first distortion pedal defined an entirely new sound, offering hard-edged attack and smooth sustain that’s been a constant addition for players over generations, the DS-1 is the best-selling BOSS compact pedal ever. Its original, unchanged design still inspires the creation of great music across the world to this day. The classic DS-1 tone is what made the signature sounds of numerous rock and metal icons, and is ready to help you with your own signature sound.
At A Glance
• Legendary distortion used by guitarists everywhere since 1978
• Doesn’t mask the unique sound characteristics of different guitars, pickups, and styles
• Unique tone control offers a wide range of sound shaping
• Works great as a booster at low distortion settings
Powerful Tone ShapingBefore the DS-1, most distortion pedals were harsh and muddy sounding at high gain settings. In 1978, BOSS engineers changed all that by designing a unique distortion circuit for the DS-1 that produces tight, hard-edged gain with rich harmonics whilst maintaining the unique characteristics of different guitars and playing techniques.
Hard rock, metal, and punk styles began to take off in the ‘70s and ‘80s, and the DS-1’s tone had a huge impact on these genres. That trend has continued through multiple generations, and players around the world continue to use the classic DS-1 sound.
