Tap in huge swathes of rich Delay
with the Boss DD-3T

The best just got better
In 1983 the Boss DD-2 was unveiled to guitarists across the globe. A world-first for digital-delay in stompbox form, the DD-2 was revolutionary in bringing high-fidelity audio and the delay range of studio rack processors to the hands (or feet!) of the every-day musician. Since it’s inception, the DD-2 has become a staple on guitarists pedalboards across all genres.
Fast-forward to 2020 and stompbox overlords Boss have unveiled the latest and most powerful incarnation of their digital delay range, the DD-3T – featuring built-in tap tempo, intuitive loop access, and upto 800ms of delay time. The DD3-T boasts all the same features which made the original such a revered pedal, and then some…
Tap Tempo On Board

up to 800 ms of delay timePerhaps the most notable addition to the DD3-T is the inclusion of a tap-tempo, a key component for any guitarist wishing to create rhythmic delay effects.
Whilst in delay mode, simply step on the pedal for 2 seconds to switch between bypass and tap operation, it’s also possible to bypass this functionality and connect an external footswitch thanks to the inclusion of the ‘Tempo’ ¼” jack connection.
When the DD3-T receives tap input, a maximum of 800ms of delay time is on hand, now it’s possible to set the tap subdivision (quarter-note triplet, dotted-eighth note, or quarter note) using the ‘mode’ knob.
The Iconic Digital Delay

The industry standardThe DD3-T sports a direct output jack in a similar fashion to the DD-3, however this has been moved to the main output jack to allow for easier connections. If a cable is connected to the direct out, this converts the main out to a delay only, meaning you can send both wet and dry signals to different amps for vast swathes of sounds.
Furthermore, should your amp or switcher have a parallel effects loop, you could try connecting a dummy plug to the direct out to mute the dry signal for effect-only blending.
Hold That LoopBoth the original DD-3 and DD-2 featured a forward-thinking ‘Hold’ function, which allowed you to capture upto 800ms, play this loop continuously and jam chords/melodies over the top.
Over subsequent years, Boss took this concept further with the highly-popular ‘Loop Station’ range, which almost single-handedly spawned an entire generation of players who would perform solely with live looping. The DD3-T boasts the same ‘Hold’ functionality as the previous DD-3, but has now been renamed ‘Short Loop’ to reflect todays common usage.
Understanding & Controlling the Boss DD3-T

E Level KnobAdjusts the volume of the delay sound. Turning the knob clockwise increases the delay sound. If the knob is turned all the way clockwise, the delay sound has the same volume as the direct sound.

Feedback Adjusts the feedback level. Turning the knob clockwise increases the number of repeats of the delayed sound. Turning the knob fully counter clockwise produces a single delay sound.

TimeAdjusting this parameter will sweep between the 'Mode's minimum and maximum loop time.

ModeSwitches the delay time range between 3 settings.
S 50ms - Min value 12.5msec - Max value 50msec.
M 200ms - Min value 50msec - Max value 200msec.
L 800ms - Min value 200msec - Max value 800msec.
A Visual Overview of the DD3-T
enhanced for modern playersBoss’s iconic DD-3 Digital Delay has been a pedalboard staple since 1986, loved everywhere for its great sound and simple operation. With the new DD-3T, Boss have updated the classic stomp with enhanced functionality while fully retaining the original’s sound and control layout. It’s now possible to tap in delay tempos using the on-board switch or an external switch, with your choice of three beat subdivisions. And the direct output jack has been moved next to the main output, providing easier connectivity for wet/dry setups.
