A motherboard’s main job is to act as a conduit between the various hardware elements that make up a PC. It needs to be able to link the desired CPU(s), system memory, graphics card, hard drive(s), and add-in cards and enable them to work in harmony.

4 Port Dynamode USB-4PCI-3.0 USB 3.0 PCI Express / PCIe Card is rated 2.8 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works!! Easy installation, plug and play. Not had any issues running two MIDI controllers through it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 4 port quality USB3 card I ordered this knowing the Scan reputation for quality products. I was not disappointed. This card is just what I wanted for my new PC to add extra ports.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Never got it going Waste of money. Device manager in both Windows XP and Windows 7 systems can see the card, and recognise it as a USB controller, but drivers cannot be installed. The dynamode website provides a driver install program which runs, but the system still does not recognise the device (yellow exclamation point in device manager) . Tried different PCI-E slots with no success. Have run out of ideas. Molex plug badly fitted on PCB, can waggle about. No seals on package, no CD-ROM driver included. Expected better from Scan. Rated 2 out of 5 by from No life from unpowered devices This seems to work fine with my powered hub, but unpowered device (e.g. a USB stick) directly connected do not work. It also doesn't seem to fit my case, but that may just be my case!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Mostly junk: can't deliver power to spec The card has a molex power connector which looked iffy out of the box, but I installed it anyway and it seemed okay. Then I found out recently that the card cannot deliver adequate power to a USB devices such as an external hard drive. Per the USB 3.0 spec, this card's ports should deliver 900 mA but don't: drives that work on USB 2.0 ports which can only deliver 500 mA don't work on this card's ports, even when only one port is in use. I've tested multiple external disks, all fail with this card but all work with motherboard USB 3.0 ports. I've tried Windows with the bundled drivers, and Linux where I get the same problem and the kernel error code which means inadequate power delivered. I didn't send it back because it had been 3 weeks and it works with low-power devices e.g. ~100 mA flash drives - but it's very disappointing as I'd bought it to speed up my backups to external disk, a job it just can't do.

will this work with a modern motherboard and windows 7?

microsoft seems to have stopped supporting usb drivers on windows 7 on new motherboards. so with a brand new motherboard and windows 7 the onboard usb ports are unusable. will putting a usb card like this into a pci slot get around this?
Asked by: sablekeech
Hi, this should work fine with your motherboard as it simply connects via PCIe. It will also work fine with Windows 7. Regards,
