Choosing a monitor is not an easy decision to make, and not just because of the large number of variations in resolution, refresh rates, sizes and connectivity options. There are also varying panel technologies used to form each display that need to be considered. These panel technologies can be grouped into three broad categories which cover the vast majority of monitors sold in the consumer market.

G-SYNC works in a surprisingly simple way - it calculates how long the present frame takes to compute and then, crucially, varies the refresh rate of the monitor to match. It works between a minimum of 33.3ms (30fps) and the maximum supported refresh of the display. The key takeaway here is that the graphics card and monitor are both synced up to one another - the monitor doesn't have the limitations imposed by a rigid, fixed-rate scanning routine.

As you’ll all likely know by now, DVI is the current standard for connection of a PC or other display generator to a digital display output. Whether the broadcasters are going HD or not, TV sets and projectors are arriving thick and fast which claim to support higher resolutions than regular telly. But HDTV is far from just one standard – it incorporates a couple of different resolutions, two different scanning modes, and a number of different frame rates. In this article, we present a guide to what all the terms actually mean.

There’s a lot more to High Definition than just having the ability to run your screen at the right resolution. With more than one type of connection available, and the thorny subject of signal encryption to contend with, just because your monitor and graphics are capable of 1,920 x 1,080 or better does not necessarily mean they will be able to display HDTV in all its glory.

25" AOC Q2577PWQ IPS Monitor, QHD 2560x1440, Flicker Free Technology, 5ms, 350 cd/m2, DP/HDMI/DVI/VGA, Speakers is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 3.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great monitor if you get the right cable. In the box you get DVI-D single link, but as this monitor is 2K it needs a dual link. thanks to Scan's support I got the right cables in the end. Still waiting for AOC support to contact me. Speakers are not to bad for video watching etc. Easy to put together the stand and it looks great in my rig. There are plenty of easy to use 'on screen' controls for anyone wishing to customise the settings to suit their own particular requirements.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value monitors I have found these monitors to be great for general usage (I can't comment on colour balance for graphical work, etc.). The overall size and the QHD resolution give a lot of screen real estate for multi tasking. The minimal bezel and border make them great in a multi-monitor situation.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from A great picture from a very smart looking monitor The monitor is easy to assemble and looks very smart when finished.. However it did not work when first connected to my computer. AOC had supplied the WRONG DVI cable. It was a Single Link type instead of a Dual Link as specified in the manual. Once this problem was sorted, every thing was fine. The picture is excellent . Only a small adjustment reducing the 'brilliance' was necessary as it was a little over bright for me. There are plenty of easy to use 'on screen' controls for anyone wishing to customise the settings to suit their own particular requirements. Delivery from Scan Computers was very prompt and I am very pleased with their service.

Why is this monitor classed as mid range?

It seems to be of a similar specification to other high end monitors, for example the Dell U2515H (LN62321). Just wondering why this is classed as mid-range, maybe a quirk of your grading system? Or is there a factor I've missed (apart from the price)?
Asked by: Jubberman
Hello, The specifications are almost identical, the only difference would be the IPS panel that they use. In either case, this is likely just an oversight on the classes. Regards,
