AX1200i - Corsair Power Supply - Fully Modular ATX PSU

Corsair AX1200i Power Supply 80PLUS - Platinum

Corsair AXi 1200W Power Supply

This AXi Series power supply from Corsair is revolutionary in the way it is the first desktop PC power supplies to use digital (DSP) control and Corsair Link to bring the best level of monitoring and performance. The AX1200i has a total power output of 1200W, other advantages are that it gives you extremely tight voltage control virtually silent operation, and a fully modular cable set. The 80PLUS Platinum efficiency rating and Zero RPM Fan Mode mean that at low to medium loads, the fan doesn’t spin at all. And when you do push the AXi hard, the thermally controlled fan spins only as fast as it needs to. Even when the fan isn't running the AX1200i has specially selected components to reduce electronic noise for a near silent PSU.

Power-supply units, or PSUs, are an integral part of any computer build. Often overlooked, it is the component that is likely to last the longest, and it can be moved between systems when you upgrade to the latest and greatest in the future.

1200W Corsair AX1200i, Full Modular, 80PLUS Platinum, SLI/CrossFire, Single Rail, 100.4A, 140mm Fan, ATX PSU is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Failed after a very short time Even though I already had a Corsair HX1000i that I could have used from my previous build, I decide to treat my new computer to an upgrade. I wish I hadn't bothered! All seemed well for a week or so, then I began experiencing random power failures, resulting in the red led status on the power supply. After switching out various components such as graphics cards, drives and changing cables, I decided to RMA it back to Scan. Thankfully, considering the random nature of the failures, they did confirm a fault. After searching the internet forums, I discovered that this has been quiet a common issue with this model of power supply. Wish I had read this before buying it. Nevermind. I am awaiting my replacement and I shall see how it goes. A second failure will mean an immediate abandonment of Corsair as my main choice of power supply vendor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from High price but top quality Building a high spec computer for my daughter for her animation course - and gaming she stressed - I chose this power supply. The thing just oozed quality from the packaging to the extensive supply of cables in a corsair carry pouch. Installation was strait forward it can be mounted fan up or down and what more can I say it’s a power supply but I feel one of the best.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works well This psu has delivered as expected. Quality product. The only issue I had was with the corsair link drivers. The USB dongle driver in its latest version has a bug. The corsair link software couldn't find the psu. Fortunately installing an early version fixed the issue then afterwards the latest version and alls well. Like the link software and really like the quiet performance of the psu.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from A bit underpowered and a real shame about the cables! 5-7 years ago premium PSUs came with good quality cables as standard (remember the Enermax Galaxy?). The individual cables were properly colour coded, used large numbers of small diameter conductors and thin high grade insulation to ensure high flexibility and were properly protected with nylon or textile braid. Then the manufacturers started to use all black cables with thick, cheap insulation leading to very poor flexibility and, as a final insult, eventually joined them all together to form a ribbon cable! I have been purchasing Corsair PSUs since they first appeared on the market place and have used them in over 100 high-end PC builds. However, their standard cables have become increasingly cheap looking, bulky and inflexible to the point where clients, family and friends always insist on aftermarket replacements for their builds. This would be more bearable if their prices were still keen, but the cost of a 1000W PSU has almost doubled in the past 5 years without any major improvements in the quality of other components (I am an Electronics Engineer by trade and I am not impressed by the marketing hype which now permeates this market). I used to run AX1200is in both my main water-cooled PCs, but had to replace the first one when I upgraded to a triple Titan set-up as the 12V rail(s) became unstable past 1088W (Output). I had an almost identical problem when I upgraded to two high end AMD GCs in the other PC when I reached 1104W. Thankfully, the previously purchased Corsair premium AXi cable sets also fitted the 1500AXis. Unfortunately, I needed 2 cable sets per PSU as they lacked sufficient peripheral 4 pin molex leads. Ironically, the manufacturer’s ‘push’ to get enthusiasts to buy better quality aftermarket cables and their availability allowed me to solve this issue quickly and cleanly without having to build my own custom cables. However, a few spare interchangeable (for SATA) 4 pin Molex cables should really be provided as standard given the likely use for any PSU greater than 1000W, especially as many high end systems will be fitted with banks of HD carriers which often use peripheral connectors for power (not forgetting Water-pumps, Fan controllers, RGB LED Controllers, CCL Inverters, Flow Rate Displays, Sound Cards, etc). In fact, I only use one SATA PSU connection (Blu-ray drive) in each of my 6 household PCs, despite them all having 6 -15 HDs. In summary, given the issues I have had with these units when pushed close to their upper limit, I would recommend that serious enthusiasts go straight for the 1500W model and bypass this unit completely. If you are certain that you only need 1200W, I can thoroughly recommend the Seasonic X1250W which served as a stop gap measure in one of the PCs previously mentioned until the AX1500i was available.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Flawless I could sum this PSU up with one word. Flawless. Scarily efficient! Quiet, cool running and endlessly tweakable profiles. Funning two fairly hungry GPU's (XFX Radeon R9 290x Black ed.) and still only pulling around 600w at full load! Oh and as an added bonus it looks pretty nice too ;)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from What do you expect Corsair never fail to deliver high quality components. The packaging itself is very high end. Easy instuctions, all power cables are braided and in black, which adds to the overall tidyness of the install. For those with old Gen MOBO's ( Asus P5Q-E ect...) be warned that the interface connection might not function as designed but an old LGA 775 board should be replaced soonish before all support and upgrades are obsolete or just insanely expensive ( yes crucial that was aimed at you!!!). Buy this and never buy a PSU again.
