Cameras

Cameras for all types of professional video projects

Here at Scan Pro Video we recognise that your choice of camera will depend on the type of filming you are wanting to do. The main factor you need to look for is the sensor size, as this will dictate the quality of the final images - both in resolution and the detail visible. Professional video cameras usually fall into one of five types - large format, studio, handheld, static and action.

Large Format

Large format cameras are specially designed for the high-end cinematography market. With large sensors, high resolutions and professional connections they are widely used on advertisements, short and feature films.

Studio

Studio cameras are the main choice for live production and broadcast. They are flexible with interchangeable lenses and easy control of zoom and focus, making them ideal for most studio and field production.

Handheld

DSLR and DSLM cameras are more compact than larger format and studio cameras but still offer relatively large sensors. They are popular with bloggers as they are compact enough to shoot high quality video.

Static

By static we are referring to cameras usually mounted in location. IP surveillance video using PTZ (pan / tilt / zoom) functions can record and output a live signal.

Action

Action cameras are designed to go where others don’t - they tend to be ruggedised and weather resistant and can be mounted in a variety of ways to capture video footage on the move.

The DSLR revolution has given us the Hybrid Camera, ENG style cameras have in-camera streaming functions, whilst large sensor digital cinema cameras are capable of capturing expanded dynamic range and resolutions beyond 4K. Together with the explosion of smartphone filmmaking accessories and action cameras, we now have unprecedented access to high quality image making tools that expand our potential to 'tell the story.'
