135 DSP effectsThe R16 offers 16 tracks for recording and playback, with the capability to record 8 simultaneously, in high-fidelity WAV format, sealing the R16’s splendid suitability for both professional production and as a simple musical sketchpad. Battery operation means you can use the R16 for recording out in the field, allowing you to capture your ideas on the fly.
The R16 allows musicians to connect your instruments such as guitar or bass direct too. Once your tracking is completed, you can utilise the R16’s built-in mixer, using it’s real faders, responsive EQ, panning and over 135 DSP effects – such as incredible amp models and polished mastering effects like multi-band compression.
Control your DAW
Mackie Control™ emulationIf like so many people nowadays, you use DAW software, it’s likely you enjoy mixing in the box, but despise mixing with a mouse. Zoom’s R16 offers the ideal solution. Using the ‘Mackie Control’ emulation, this turns the R16 to take on a full-featured control surface for widely used DAWs such as Cubase, Logic, Ableton live, Sonar and more, with the addition of physical faders and transport/status buttons which streamline the whole process of mixing your masterpiece.
Furthermore, 5 assignable function keys enable you to add marker points and begin advanced editing operations.
Advanced Features to Enhance
your Workflow
Cubase LE includedThe R16 features 8 inputs in the form of combo-connectors which are capable of accepting either XLR or ¼” balanced or unbalanced cables. Each can handle mic and line-level signals, whilst input 1 is able to handle instrument-level signals through passive or active electric guitars. Phantom Power is also on hand and can be put to use with inputs 5/6 to enable the use of condenser mics. There’s even two balanced ¼” TRS output-jacks, alongside a headphone out and dedicated volume control.
With 135 studio-grade DSP effects on board, such as insert effects such as EQ/dynamics processing, and send-return effects like reverb/delay/chorus/flanger. In addition to this, there’s amp modellers for guitar, bass and mic preamps, alongside effects purposely designed for vocals and stereo instruments like keyboard, as well as mastering algorithms like multi-band compression. The R16 allows for effects to be added during recording/mixdown/playback.
The USB port enables the R16 to send and receive digital data and to behave as an 8in/2out interface for use with DAWs including the included Cubase LE. Each of level meters and the integrated chromatic tuner all remain fully usable when using the R16 as an interface, and whilst operating with a sample frequency of 44.1kHz, incoming signals are able to be routed via the R16’s integrated DSP effects. It’s even possible to sync 2 R16s via USB for up to 32 tracks of playback and 16 tracks of simultaneous recording.
