Joey Landreth Overdrive/Distortion Pedal
Revv - Dirtdog
The Sound of InspirationThe Revv Dirtdog is a unique and musical overdrive designed to inspire your creative process. When Joey Landreth recorded his album Dog Ear, he built a small, quirky, vintage-inspired amp which he used for many of the tones. He needed a reliable way to get that sound into his rig and take it on the road and Revv were happy to help. The Dirtdog brings the analogue soul you hear in Joey's Juno-winning music to your guitar tone. Whether you're using it to sweeten your favourite clean sound or pushing it to its limits for a fat lead tone, the Dirtdog's thick mids and organic breakup will take you back in time.

Organic Oldschool Distortion
capturing the magicJoey Landreth found inspiration in a quirky oldschool amp he built himself when recording The Bros. Landreth album Dog Ear. It sounded perfect for a wide range of crunch tones, but a dimed small amp isn't exactly road-worthy. The Dirtdog lets you give any amp the touch-sensitive feel and rich harmonics of vintage gear while drawing from Joey's modern-classic rootsy & eclectic recorded sound.
the technical detailsThe Dirtdog is an amp-like overdrive with a creamy three-dimensional midrange. Try it at low Gain settings with Bite turned up for chimey edge of breakup, or with Level dimed for an out-of-control 'amp-on-10' sound. The way you combine the Gain & Level knobs will fundamentally shape the tone of your Dirtdog as it pushes your amp differently.
vintage breakupPart of what makes small vintage amps great is the unique way they distort when pushed to their limits. When Joey asked us to capture that lightning in a bottle, Revv were excited for the challenge. The Dirtdog distills the oldschool bloom and sag that sound equally musical from barely distorted all the way up to 'about-to-explode' into a compact and reliable all-analogue pedal.
more than toneThe Bite knob handles the pedal's treble response, so what does Tone knob do? Tone broadly shifts the midrange voice of the pedal from a snarlier, punchier sound to the right to a chewier, scooped sound to the left. The Dirtdog's controls are interactive, making it useful for many applications because each knob's position substantially affects the response of the others.
About Joey Landreth
versatile and highly-regardedJoey has been an important influence at Revv since almost the very beginning. Dating back to the earliest Dynamis amps, as fellow Winnipeg natives, Revv bounced ideas off of him and asked his opinion on tones. When you have such a versatile and highly-regarded player in your backyard - you'd be crazy not to!
When it came time for him to step into the forefront at Revv with some signature amps and now pedals, he didn't miss a beat. Each piece of JL gear is tweaked for the added versatility and organic character you'd expect from the Juno-winning artist and certified gear aficionado guitarists have been looking to for rig and lick inspiration for over a decade.
The Design
responsive and dynamicWhen the two-time Juno-winning Bros. Landreth set out to create Dog Ear, a deeply personal record inspired by their spontaneous live sound, Joey built a handmade amp based on small, easy-to-distort amps dating back to the '40s. He used it for lots of the gain tones and wanted a reliable way to bring that sound on the road. That's where the Dirtdog comes in.
The Dirtdog has a broad, organic distortion like oldschool amps. It's designed to get gnarly and even sputter at maximum settings, but it can also be used to sweeten up your cleans and provide those coveted 'edge of breakup' dynamics for your playing. At its core, you'll find a musical and harmonically rich overdrive that reacts to your playing. Its chewy midrange makes it well suited to classic tones whether they're subtle and subdued or completely over the top.
