Product Overview

Low-Profile Tower Design

While most low-profile coolers blow air towards the motherboard, the NH-D9L is a tower style cooler that blows air parallel to the mainboard. This allows for superior airflow efficiency in cases with front intake and rear exhaust fans that create an airflow path parallel to the mainboard.

3U Compatibility

Whereas classic 9cm coolers with up to 125mm height fit 4U rack mount cases, the NH-D9L’s reduced height of 110mm allows it to also fit in 3U chassis. This makes it ideal for noise-sensitive 3U applications in fields such as audio or video processing.

100% RAM Compatibility

With its 95x95mm footprint, the NH-D9L does not overhang the RAM slots on current Intel and most AMD mainboards. This gives the user full access to the memory modules and guarantees 100% compatibility with tall heatspreaders or optional memory fans. Please note that some AMD mainboards violate the 96x114mm keep-out zone specified by AMD, so the NH-D9L can only be used with RAM modules of up to 30mm height on these boards. Please consult our compatibility list for details.

100% Compatibility with PCIe Cards on Mini-ITX

Many Intel LGA115x based Mini-ITX mainboards have the PCIe slot sitting right next to the 95x95mm socket zone. While larger coolers that exceed this zone are likely to block the PCIe slot, the 95x95xmm sized NH-D9L provides full compatibility with PCIe cards, be it on ATX, MicroATX or ITX.

NF-A9 Premium Fan

The highly optimised NF-A9 premium fan features Noctua’s proprietary AAO frame as well as sophisticated aerodynamic design measures such as Flow Acceleration Channels, which allows it to further improve the renowned efficiency of Noctua’s previous 92mm models and contributes to the NH-D9L superior cooling performance.

PWM support and Low-Noise Adaptor

The NF-A9 92mm fan supplied with the NH-D9L supports PWM for convenient automatic speed control through the mainboard. In addition, the maximum fan speed can be reduced from 2000 to 1550 rpm using the supplied Low-Noise Adaptor for even quieter operation.

Dual Fan Ready

The NH-D9L includes an extra set of fan mounting clips for users who want to achieve even better cooling performance by adding a second, optional NF-A9 to the front fin stack. Using the y-cable supplied with the NF-A9 PWM retail fan, both fans can be connected to one CPU fan header. Please note that the optional front fan will sit above the RAM and depending on the height of the RAM modules, the fan may have to be moved up so far that the total height of the cooler exceeds 110mm. As a result, the cooler may no longer fit some 3U cases. In order to guarantee full 3U compatibility in dual fan mode, please use low profile memory with up to 22mm height.

SecuFirm2™ Mounting System

Noctua’s SecuFirm2™ mounting systems have become synonymous with quality, safety and ease of use. Supporting Intel LGA115x (LGA1150, LGA1155, LGA1156), LGA2011 (LGA2011-0 & LGA2011-3), LGA2066 and AMD (AM5 & AM4), the SecuFirm2™ mounting included with the NH-D9L guarantees perfect contact pressure and maximum convenience on all current sockets.

Compatibility with Past and Future Sockets

Complying with the open SecuFirm™ standard, the NH-D9L can be made compatible with the older LGA1366 and LGA775 sockets by using the optional NM-I3 mounting kit, which is provided by Noctua free of charge. If technically possible, Noctua will also provide upgrade kits for future sockets.

NT-H1 Thermal Compound

Having received more than 100 awards and recommendations from hardware journalists around the world, Noctua’s NT-H1 is a proven professional grade TIM solution that provides minimum thermal resistance, excellent ease of use and outstanding reliability.

Six Years Warranty

Noctua products are renowned for their impeccable quality and outstanding longevity. Like all Noctua fans, the supplied NF-A9 features an MTBF rating of more than 150.000 hours and the entire NH-D9L package comes with a full six years manufacturer’s warranty.

Intel Branding Part I
Intel Branding Part I
Date Issued: 1st Jul 2009

Intel’s been on a mission of late. That mission revolves around grouping and standardising key technologies under various banners that are designed to ensure hardware compatibility and consumer ease of use. We’ll take a closer look at three such technologies that fall under the headings of Centrino, Viiv, and vPro, respectively.

The modern PC is potentially a mass of heat output and heat production hot spots. With CPUs rated at more than 100W of heat output, single graphics boards carrying similar ratings (and people want to run two!), multiple hard drives the norm, lots of memory and mainboards covered in heatpipes to combat toasty core logic and PWM circuits, a PC appreciably warming up a room when it’s working hard is no joke.

Noctua NH-D9L Dual Tower CPU Cooler, 1x NF-A9 PWM Fan, Copper Base/Heatpipes, Aluminium Fins, Intel/AMD is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant Product I have been really happy with this. Great build quality, really effective fan that is also silent ( I have always loved there fans). Easy to mount, good instructions. Absolutely nothing bad to say.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Cooling, Very high Quality+ more The Noctua specs say this is good for LGA 2011-3 processors, I went ahead with caution as my i7-5820K is a very hot chip, and I was quite surprised that even with some small overclocking (at 4.0ghz), it cools the chip well and does not throttle at all, even in a rather hot climate. For any LGA 2011-3 Xeon this will be great, and more than capable for a lower end processor like the Skylake chips. Can't say much about AMD chips, but this is rated up to 140w and manages ok with the 190w that my cpu was kicking out so it should be fine for even the FX8000 series of AMD chips. The build quality of the cooler is amazing, previously i've tried an arctic freezer i30 and even though it's rated much better it did not perform much better than this, even with a noctua fan it was much louder and temps weren't all that much lower. Overall i'm seriously impressed by this little cooler.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Built & Quiet Bought this to keep my non overclocked 6700K cool and it does the job fine and quietly. Might seem overpriced but the engineering quality of Noctua products makes it worth paying that bit extra.
Date published: 2016-05-22
Rated 5 out of 5 by from A good product This excellent cooler performs well and is very quiet. The relatively low height and small footprint enable it to fit in cases where a larger tower type could not.
Date published: 2016-04-26
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Beautifully engineered and a doddle to fit! When you see how this cooler is packaged you know you've bought something of very high quality. This is the second one of these coolers I've bought now for two separate builds, both are used with high end i7 CPU's and do their job silently and efficiently. They're very easy to fit with clear and concise instructions, I can't fault anything about them and would recommend them highly to anyone who values well engineered components!
Date published: 2016-01-26
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Welldone Noctua! This heatsink is simply amazing! Have had Intel stock heatsink over my core i5 4590 with 73 degrees Celsius on full load, now with the Noctua managed to drop the temperature to 52 degrees Celsius. Over 20 degrees drop is huge improvement! Not to mention that the case fans are running quiet now because of this excellent piece of art. Highly recommended! If you've got a mATX or mini ITX case with limited space but you need quality cooling for your CPU, get this item and you won't regret at all! I am with Corsair Air 240 and it fits perfectly.

Can you please confirm that this comes with AM4 compatible mountings?

According to Noctua this unit has been shipped with AM4 compatible moutings since Feb 2019 but the description here doesn't state compatibility beyond AM3+
