Blackmagic HyperDeck Extreme: 8K is coming, be ready

A leap and a bound into the futureTaking the basis of the HyperDeck, a powerful SD card recorder and playback device, Blackmagic are preparing for an 8K future, by giving you the overhead to work in any space up to 8K in the now. Innovations include H.265 recording for native 8K with the advancements that the format gives you, lower storage and the same amazing image quality. It’s time to take the next step in production.
Recording Media Options

CFast, USB-C, M.2 NVMeFeaturing multiple options for recording, you can indefinitely keep going as long as you monitor your media’s capacity. On the front, two CFast Card slots that will swap over when the other gets full and an option for USB-C external disk recording. Underneath, a small panel comes away for you to fit an M.2 NVMe PCIe, helping you avoid any losses in frame data if the CFast or USB-C drive fails in some capacity. With this installed, you can even record in formats that would be far too quick for the typical methods of recording.

Ports, 10G FTPOn the back, a 10G Ethernet port is fitted for extremely fast transfer speeds to an FTP on your network. You don’t even need to remove the CFast cards or any storage, as the HyperDeck will simply appear as another storage point that you can then use a regular client to access to put things on or take things off.
Other ports on the back include a Quad Link 12G –SDI (SD, HD, UHD and 8K) and these ports support your fill and key while dealing with RGBA 4:4:4:4 files. HDMI deals with your typical consumer level monitors, while analog is included for archiving work with older formats.

Traditional Look, Modern Functions

Retro ChicDesigned to look like a traditional deck, the HyperDeck Extreme Control is an external and optional attachment that is perfect for pairing with the HyperDeck for extra functions or to even control multiple HyperDecks at once!
Best as a PairThe Control provides video control, HyperDeck control and small editing functions to get footage out of the HyperDeck faster for pumping into a vision mixer or a quick edit.

Legacy Preservation

Convert to Modern FormatsThe HyperDeck can be utilised to preserve legacy programming, combined with the Extreme Control, allows you to take in legacy media (Betacam SP, 1-inch C format, Digital Betacam, etc.), which can be fed through to a Teranex for conversion to higher quality formats in an incredibly simple method. With both components in place, you can set in and out points, with basic editing to get the exact start and stop times needed.
Use Your Deck

RS-422Blackmagic Design love being compatible with everything, not just their own kit, which is why the HyperDeck Extreme is RS-422 protocol compliant, allowing it to be accessed and used in any control desk that runs on it!

The new WorkflowOn Blackmagic’s end, utilise this with the new ATEM Constellation 8K for a perfect master recording at the native 8K, then save it to where it needs to go via the MultiDock 10G over USB-C. Once it’s done, take the footage straight from the HyperDeck via FTP, onto the PC and into DaVinci Resolve or your favourite video editing software.

Digital Signage, MoreWith its native 8K recording and below capabilities, multiple output or transfer options, the HyperDeck is almost a little too perfect to be used for digital signage of any size.
With the standard protocol in place, it should work as a control deck for your signage too if plugged in directly!
