AC
(Cherry Red)
classic rock tones - sleek looks - premium pickupsAlong with the LP-style, S-style and T-style guitars, the double-cut design is roundly accepted as one of the all-time great electric guitar designs. Instantly recognisable due to its double cutaway design, black pickguard and Cherry Red finish, the double cut-style guitar continues to stand the test of time.
Initially unleased to the world as a variation upon the LP-style, the double-cut design was introduced to feature a lighter, thinner body, and greater access to the upper frets. It soon became the axe of choice for guitar heroes such as Angus Young, Tony Iommi and Pete Townshend and continues this popularity right through to this day. Fairclough’s AC electric guitar offers all the characteristics and roaring rock tones which helped put this style of guitar on the map.
With iconic body contours and a beautiful glossy finish, the Fairclough AC guitar has been supercharged with a pair of genuine Wilkinson humbuckers, the inclusion of these renowned pickups is quite simply something unseen on a guitar at this price point. These incredible pickups are capable of serving up everything from glistening clean tones, right through to cutting red-hot rock tones!

Wilkinson PickupsAs Standard
Every Fairclough guitar will leave the workshop at Scan in perfect playable condition, having been checked for cosmetic or physical defects, then given a full 22-point setup before despatch by our techs, who will send you a video of your actual guitar on the bench.
Because we work directly with a factory who manufacture for many of the big-name brands, we can keep affordable guitars affordable, with no middle men to take a cut or marketing budget to pay for. Direct from the factory to our workshop at Scan for thorough checks and setup, then on to you.
Unlike factory direct brands at other stores, you won’t have to pay to to get your instrument setup (then wait to get it back) and upgrade entry level pickups, as we’ve effectively done that for you already, courtesy of our partnership with Wilkinson (whose guitar kits are a UK exclusive at Scan).
We would estimate that this saves you around £120 per instrument.
No more settling for a ‘bargain’ instrument with niggling defects just because ‘its not worth it to send it back’ to another country, No more bad intonation, sharp frets, faulty hardware, or unsightly blemishes. We make sure one of our techs has taken as much care of your instrument as you could possibly do once it arrives.
Whether you are a beginner, or an experienced player these guitars offer exceptional value, perfectly ready to play, out of the box.
Powerful, Versatile Wilkinson Pickups
classic Tune-o-matic style bridgeThe Fairclough AC body is made from Okume wood, an increasingly popular choice of tonewood amongst this price range, Okume is sonically well-balanced, lighter than its mahogany counterpart, extremely resonant and is very forgiving on stage during longer sets and performances.
You’ll also find the classic tune-o-matic style bridge so often found on this classic design, this combined with the die-cast tuning machines ensures effective and reliable tuning stability, as well as simple and quick restringing.
The inclusion of Wilkinson's humbucker pickups offers a broad range of the classic tones you'd expect, from thick, warm and creamy tones in the neck position, to biting and cutting tones when in the bridge position. These pickups play extremely well with both clean tones and driven/distorted tones, offering a wealth of versatility from blues, rock, right through to heavy metal.
To take control over this broad palette of tones, Fairclough included a 3-way pickup selector switch, alongside a twin tone pots and twin volume controls.
A Smooth Playing Experience
okume neckThe Fairclough AC features a wonderfully comfortable Okume neck and combines with a Rosewood fingerboard, offering smooth playing experience underneath the fingertips and helps serve up warm, mellow yet balanced tones across each of the 22 frets.
The neck itself is incredibly well made and sit’s in the fretting hand with a brilliantly natural, comfortable and familiar feel. The neck is super-fast and extremely encouraging to play!
The Fairclough Story
Steve Fairclough has been a professional guitar player for over 40 years.
During that time he has had a vast experience of teaching and tuition at all levels. In the early 90s he founded the Guitar Academy in the North of England. He toured the world through his work as international demonstrator for both Takamine and Parker guitars, and he went on to be a patron and course leader at the world renowned Bath International Guitar Festival. He has written columns for many UK guitar magazines. And was responsible for writing the examination pieces for the Young Acoustic Guitarist of the Year competitions. He was also the European Ambassador for Fishman Transducers.
For years, Steve had never really been entirely comfortable recommending a beginners or intermediate guitar, as most available makes and models were built solely on price, using the cheapest components to offer the cheapest guitar on the wall. These Fairclough guitars have been built with specification first and foremost.
The woods used are good quality, well dried and well sawn, the Pickups are usually either Wilkinson or Fishman, and each guitar is quality inspected before it leaves the factory, and then undergoes a full 22 point set-up before it leaves our warehouses to you.
Every Guitar Includes Professional Setup
It doesn’t matter what the value of the guitar, if you buy it from us we take extra steps to ensure you are completely satisfied with your instrument. This means that your guitar may take an extra day to deliver, just so we can get these checks done. You’ll receive email updates once your guitar is ready for despatch.
We hope you feel it’s worth the extra time and patience we spend on your instrument.
