Pearl 2: Professional Live Streaming, Made Easy

Full NDI Bit-rateThe Pearl 2 from Epiphan is an all-in-one streaming box, that utilises a web based user interface and the box itself to bring high quality, 1080p60 (4K30 on upgrade) to a range of platforms, including local recording, Twitch, YouTube and education based CMS like Moodle or Kaltura.

Inputs and OutputsThis uncompromising attitude to NDI continues into the resolution support, with everything from SD to 1080p 60fps, you can pump anything through the HDMI port and scale it to suit your need into an NDI signal.

The Studio also has an HDMI and SDI output, so you can loop out the feed for previewing, so you don’t lose the HDMI port you’d be losing and don’t need to invest in a splitter.

Touch Screen Situated on the front, a touch screen gives you the options to switch between layouts or 'channels' and enter the settings. There's also a button for when you get things set up just right on the backend for instant recording or streaming.

back This massive amount of flexibility gives you the option to capture six video sources at once and then stream out into one 4K or six Full HD programs. When you combine the options on the backend, you'll be able to pull in your own images to be used as lower thirds or whatever you want.

Processor, Hard Drive

The Power to Drive 4K Under the hood, the Pearl 2 features an 6th gen, i7 processor to help with 4K streaming and capturing. However, to unlock this feature you'll need to buy the additional licence. While it's recommended for capturing, most people streaming from the Pearl 2 will find that bandwidth might be insufficient to stream out in 4K and 1080p is actively supported across a wider range of platforms.

Streaming and recording can take place at the same time, with streaming being able to be pushed to multiple platforms, including Epiphan's own built-in server that can be beamed out locally.

Upgrade to 4K

Speedy SSD Recording can go to the 512GB sold state drive built in, but also to a USB drive or with the right settings in place, you can even have the Pearl 2 save to a local network storage and even offload old content to it on a regular basis. Capturing takes in the full quality of the ISO you're shooting at so you can edit it in full during post-production.

Bring in your Audio With XLR and RCA ports, the Pearl 2 can also ingest into your workflow the power of a professional audio system, including your mixing desk. Those who have a penchant for impressive audio to go alongside their live streams will feel right at home.

Admin Panel

Tweak and Go Daunting at first, the Admin Panel is actually incredibly easy to navigate with clearly marked sections, options and more to tweak or edit. To access it, you'll need to point your browser to the automatically assigned IP address or the static IP address that you can assign from the Pearl 2 itself. It'll ask for you to log in (Admin, no password on first set up), which will then lead you into the panel.

Channels and Layouts Here, you can begin to edit the 'channels' and layouts that Pearl 2 operates off, which work similar to other vision mixers like OBS or VMix when laying them out. Any alterations made should then be reflected on the monitor on the Pearl 2 while that channel is selected.

Each channel features layouts which can be edited to suit your needs, from different video or image sources and audio inputs. Once you have a few layouts made up in the admin panel, they'll become selectable on the touch screen or within Epiphan Live.

main The Pearl 2 now supports chromakey, so you can apply a green screen effect into the video being outputted without having to reroute through any other software beforehand.

Nitty Gritty The Admin Panel also gives access to changing the bitrate, where you're pointing the Pearl 2 to stream to (stream keys, log ins) and automatic file transfers. Other streaming options are also available, like accessing the preview from the internal server for previewing.

Epiphan Live

Perfect for Digital Signage Through the Pearl 2's Admin page you can access Epiphan Live, a separate user interface that can be accessed and acts as a controller and switcher for those away from the Pearl 2 directly.

Intended to be used on almost any device with a web browser, Epiphan live is great with touch devices and any PC that can display a 1080p image will be able to control the whole Pearl 2 from the local network without any issues.

back With this web app you can switch channels, layouts and start recordings or broadcasts to whatever streams you've set up on the Admin Panel.

Also from Epiphan In addition to these two systems, the Pearl 2 has direct integration with AVStudio, Epiphan's web based subscription service that you can do light editing in. This program is intended for those who have to go in and edit lots of video of presentations, live events etc. but don't need the higher end editing software to create this level of content.

This service is available from Epiphan directly.

For the Education Market

Content and Learning Management System Integration Education based customers will love the Pearl 2. Not only is it easy to use for all teachers, but if you use a CMS and LMS like Kaltura, Moodle, Mediasite or Blackboard, the Pearl 2 integrates directly into their video services.

For instance, with Kaltura, you can set the Pearl 2 into a certain mode that will then work directly with Kaltura's scheduling system to go live automatically without any need to interact with the Pearl 2. It'll also then offload the content onto the CMS/LMS for use.
