This updated version of the cult-favourite pedal combines an unusual octave transformer with an all-analogue distortion circuit, producing a sound that can move from thick, resonant fuzz to sharp, metallic clangs and dissonant, almost synth-like textures.

At its heart is a specially sourced octave transformer and precision-matched diodes, creating rich harmonics and an analogue octave-up effect. Engage the dedicated Octave footswitch whenever you want to add that extra layer of upper-register aggression, or leave it off and use the pedal as a formidable standalone distortion and fuzz. Separate bypass and octave footswitches make it easy to switch between these sounds as you play.

The three main controls offer plenty of scope for shaping the result. Gain delivers up to 39dB of gain, pushing the circuit from gritty drive into heavily saturated fuzz. Volume provides everything from a subdued output to a substantial boost capable of driving the next pedal in your chain harder. Meanwhile, the pre-gain Tone control acts as a tilt EQ, changing the balance of highs and lows before they hit the distortion circuit. Push the low frequencies for a thick, blown-out sound, or favour the highs for a sharper, more cutting response.

For even more control, an internal Bias adjustment lets you alter the character of the distortion circuit. Leave it around the central setting for its standard response, or move it either way to introduce rougher, less predictable textures. It’s a useful extra for players who like to experiment beyond the usual gain and tone adjustments.
