Death By Audio - Evil Filter
FOR THE TRULY WILDFrom vocal, wah-like sweeps to screaming resonance and blown-out fuzz, the Death By Audio Evil Filter takes familiar filter effects into much wilder territory. Combining a precision multimode filter with two distinct fuzz characters, it gives guitarists, bassists and synth players a powerful way to reshape their sound, from controlled tonal movement to unruly noise and self-generated oscillation.
At the heart of the Evil Filter is a selectable three-mode filter. High-Pass mode removes frequencies below the cutoff point, leaving the upper range to cut through with added bite. Band-Pass mode isolates a focused section of the midrange for vocal, wah-like tones, while Low-Pass mode rolls off the highs to produce darker, bass-heavy sounds. The Filter Freq control sweeps the cutoff point, making it easy to move between subtle tonal shaping, pronounced filter sweeps and more extreme changes in character.
The Resonance control adds another dimension to the sound. At lower settings, it gives the filter a more rounded, conventional response; turn it up and the filter becomes increasingly focused and pronounced, developing sharp resonant peaks and potentially breaking into self-oscillation. A dedicated Resonance switch provides a higher range for more intense effects, including piercing squeals, pulsing subharmonics and unpredictable tonal movement.
Alongside the filter sits the Evil Fuzz section, with its own footswitch for independent operation. Choose between two fuzz characters: one delivers a rich, driving distortion that responds well to your guitar’s volume control, while the other produces a more saturated, blooming wall of fuzz. Use the fuzz on its own, combine it with the filter for aggressive, frequency-shaped distortion, or push the two sections together to explore more extreme harmonic textures.
For hands-on control beyond the pedal itself, the EXP/CV input allows the filter cutoff to be swept using an expression pedal or a compatible control-voltage source. This makes the Evil Filter equally at home producing expressive sweeps in a live performance or responding to external modulation in a synth-based setup. With the resonance pushed hard, the interaction between filter and fuzz can venture into octave-rich tones, wavefolding-like textures and full-on sonic chaos.
Housed in a distinctive, rugged enclosure, the Death By Audio Evil Filter is built for players who want more than a standard wah or conventional filter pedal. Its combination of three filter modes, two fuzz types, adjustable resonance and external control makes it a compelling tool for heavy riffs, experimental leads, synthesiser processing and noise-driven sound design.
