The ‘Video Assist’ from Blackmagic is a portable monitor, pro-grade recorder, portable scope and a superb camera viewfinder solution in one! It’s also possible to add better quality record codecs, alongside a larger monitor to any SDI or HDMI camera! The Video Assist features a new design, with new innovations such as 4 built-in scopes, greater focus assist features, a tally indicator and integrated 3D LUTs.
The 3G model fully supports formats up to 1080p60.

1920 x 1080 displayThe front face of the monitor sports a vibrant 5” 1920 x 1080 display for analysing your work. On-screen controls allow you to control the brightness and contrast dependent on the shoot location, while the 135° viewing angle makes it easier than ever for multiple crew members to watch simultaneously. It also fully rotates so no matter which way it’s mounted, the picture is always sure to be displayed correctly.
Touchscreen InterfaceThe ‘Video Assists’ colourful 5” display offers highly-intuitive capacitive touchscreen controls. Simple swipe gestures make it easy to show or hide settings, such as capture resolution and format, alongside screen brightness and contrast. Swipe in a different direction and you’ll have full access to further controls, recording status, histogram, audio level, timecode, battery status and more. The controls feature a semi-transparent overlay, meaning you’re still able to keep a close eye on each part of your shots.
6G-SDI and HDMI Connections
Loop-through outputsBoth video and audio are captured using 6g-SDI and HDMI 1.4 inputs, enabling you to record from professional cameras and camcorders, alongside popular DSLRs and mirrorless cameras. Using the 6G-SDI input, you can even monitor in Ultra-HD footage.
Loop-through outputs are on hand to enable you to simultaneously display the live video or recorded clips on larger screens, such as HD broadcast monitors or HDMI projectors, whilst you monitor and record on the Video Assist. Audio is embedded in the output and is also able to be monitored via headphones thanks to the 3.5mm stereo jack.
10-Bit 4:2:2 ProRes & DNxHD Recording
supports industry-standard formatsBlackmagic’s ‘Video Assist’ captures your video at staggering 10-bit 4:2:2 quality. Files are recorded directly to high-speed U1 SD cards, using Apple ProRes (HQ, 422, LT, Proxy) or DNxHD codecs. These are industry-standard formats, so you’re free to start editing immediately without having to convert the files first.
Recording is auto-triggered via your Blackmagic Video Assist from the start/stop button on compatible cameras, so you’re free to remain focused on getting the shot without having to worry about operating additional gear.
Power & Additional Features
Intelligent battery managementA universal 110V to 240 VAC power supply is included so you’re able to use the Video Assist anywhere your work takes you. Connect the AC adapter into the 12 VDC input to receive continuous power, or run off of dual Canon compatible LP-E6 type batteries. Intelligent battery management will use the battery with less charge first, then quickly switch to the other battery without ever interrupting your recording. Once connected to AC power, the batteries can be charged in parallel while the Video Assist is still being used.
