Choosing a monitor is not an easy decision to make, and not just because of the large number of variations in resolution, refresh rates, sizes and connectivity options. There are also varying panel technologies used to form each display that need to be considered. These panel technologies can be grouped into three broad categories which cover the vast majority of monitors sold in the consumer market.

34" Acer Predator X34A Curved NVIDIA G-Sync IPS Gaming Monitor, IPS, 60Hz (100Hz OC), 3440x1440, 4ms, Tilt, DP/HDMI/USB3 is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 15.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from There's a reason it's being hailed the ultimate gaming monitor Spent £799.49 and the gaming experience is truly next level when paired with a GTX 980TI STRIX. My model is an AUG 17 model and can confirm that it overclocked easily to 100hz and came with zero dead pixels. However there is a small amount of coil whine on very bright white backgrounds only * I turned up my brightness to 84 from a stock of 70*. Overall 5*, the only reason I did not give 5/5 for value and quality is due to the limitations of most games currently out which can subtract from the gaming experience with frequent 16:9 cut scenes and games having to re-scale the UI. This is no fault of the monitor however for a £950 investment it is currently under utilized by many games which is a shame, but can be fixed. Overall I love it!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from They are not all able to do 100Hz I wish I had researched it before buying. The advertised 100Hz is very rare. I had to spend £150 on Displayport cables trying to achieve the max refresh rate. Which it just dont do. Mine goes to 95Hz max and will not go any higher. Last week ASUS released a £700 competitor to the X34a. I cant recommend this monitor.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Secondly only to VR in immersion I am extremely happy with this monitor. The extra width and large size is very immersive - to the point I felt a tiny bit motion sick when a friend spun me round in circles in a game. Amazing! As well as my first ultra-wide monitor this is my first G-Sync monitor. If "tearing" annoys you, G-Sync is a godsend. It doesn't seem to work in all games, but older games maintain a high enough framerate that enabling vsync works instead. For newer games where the framerate isn't necessarily in the triple figures, G-Sync really smooths it out without the performance hit of vsync. Lastly, the high frame rate. I didn't think there would be a big difference between 60 and 90 (which is what I currently have it "overclocked" to) but it is noticeable. Combined with G-Sync, gaming is buttery smooth! All of these combine to more than the sum of their parts into a beautiful, immersive gaming experience with less to take you out of the game than ever before. If you have the money - and the physical space - this is the best way to enjoy your games, hands down. The only downside is the backlight bleed. As it's an IPS panel I was expecting this, but the fact that it is so wide and you sit very close to it does exacerbate (no pun intended) the problem - the curvature isn't steep enough to overcome the width. If backlight bleed is a dealbreaker for you, avoid this (and all other ultra-wide IPS monitors, I expect). Helpful things to know if you get this monitor: - you can "overclock" the maximum refresh rate from 60 to up to 100, although the maximum you can reach is not guaranteed and will vary by monitor - many games can be made to work in ultra-wide with configuration hacks or patches, search for "widescreen gaming forum" for instructions on most games imaginable - if games do not support ultra-wide at all, you still get the same amount of pixels and display inches as you would on a 2560x1440 monitor - no loss! - the monitor is LARGE. Really large. It also has a surprisingly big footprint for the stand - make sure you have room! - the box is also very large. If you're in a small house / flat and intend to keep the box for moves, bear that in mind - you need an NVidia graphics card to use GSync, and you need to turn it on in the NVidia control panel

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good, but not £900 good. It's impressive, don't get me wrong. G-Sync is great, screen size is amazing. But? But: * Backlight consistency isn't great. My unit has a dim band along the bottom * Pixel spacing - Seems to have faint black lines between pixels Granted: Both the above can only be seen on flat colours, so 90% it's a non-issue, but for £900? I expected more. OVERALL: Assuming i've just got a slightly off unit, this is a great monitor and i'd recommend getting one. If this isn't an off unit, and this is how they are? 5/10, or maybe worth it if less than £500.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not much more you can ask from a display Pros - The display is HUGE, the design itself is excellent and will sit on any decent size desk. - Easy to set up - box is designed so there is nothing to attach/ screw in - Colors are fantastic, coming from the ROG SWIFT TFT panel this is a huge upgrade for me - Little no impact on FPS (??) I was using a 1080Ti and I am still seeing 75-90FPS in the Witcher at max settings and the native resolution. - Overclocking.. well better to call it a setting because it's so easy to do- 100Hz is perfect for Overwatch and CS Source. - HDMI input is a nice touch for those looking to console game too Cons - - Cost is high, though I am not marking it down as it just dropped in price. - There is some tearing and slight jitter in some games (maybe noticeable 5% of the time) - again this will be a driver issue for NVidia rather than ACER so this is something that will iron out in time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ultrawide Ascension One of the best upgrades I have made. Going from FHD to QHD was impressive. Going from QHD to UWQHD is a whole other story. The immersion of UW is a luxury you will not regret paying the price for.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant Brilliant G-sync monitor for the price because ASUS cost more and use same panel as ACER X34A. It took half year to decide which will take ASUS or ACER Nice option with LED lights under monitor. Excellent with no back light keyboards. Only disadvantage due HDMI port with max 50hz and realy HUGE box. Back light bleed only on left top corner with size less than 1 square cm . And noticeable only when you try to find. Otherwise impossible to see. Never go back without g-sync and using two 1080's Overall best buyin this year Highly recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly recommended The x34a has an improved GUI and stand, compared to the original. Due to this I haven't been able to find a single issue with it so far minus my lack of knowledge into how g-sync worked.

Questions & Answers

Would a single GTX980 be able to power this?

I currently have a GTX980 in my build which powers 3 x 24" 1080 monitors without any sync. Would my card be capable to push out Ultra on this monitor? Or should I be looking at SLI'ing it?
Asked by: Hex0plasm
Ultra in what, is the question. It could drive it, but you won't be running Crysis 3 in much over medium settings. SLI might work, but it's always better to have a single card. You'll want a 1070 or better.
