PC monitor manufacturers tend to focus on a particular buzzword or acronym almost every year. In the past, we have been treated to HD (high definition), denoting the screen is capable of running a minimum 720p resolution.

Choosing a monitor is not an easy decision to make, and not just because of the large number of variations in resolution, refresh rates, sizes and connectivity options. There are also varying panel technologies used to form each display that need to be considered. These panel technologies can be grouped into three broad categories which cover the vast majority of monitors sold in the consumer market.

Whether the broadcasters are going HD or not, TV sets and projectors are arriving thick and fast which claim to support higher resolutions than regular telly. But HDTV is far from just one standard – it incorporates a couple of different resolutions, two different scanning modes, and a number of different frame rates. In this article, we present a guide to what all the terms actually mean.

There’s a lot more to High Definition than just having the ability to run your screen at the right resolution. With more than one type of connection available, and the thorny subject of signal encryption to contend with, just because your monitor and graphics are capable of 1,920 x 1,080 or better does not necessarily mean they will be able to display HDTV in all its glory.

27" iiyama G2730HSU-B1 Black Hawk, Freesync, Full HD 1920x1080, TN Panel, 1ms Response, 2W x2 Speakers, DP/HDMI/VGA is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 7.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Ok but pixel size is larger than ideal The monitor is generally fine only issue is that with a screen this size the pixel size is clearly visible and detracts from the screen quality and clarity I’d rather pay double the price for a similar size Dell 4K monitor to reduce eye strain

Rated 3 out of 5 by from not a good choice for multi monitor I bought three of these for a triple monitor setup. I was swayed by the low price, the Illyama brand and the thin bezels. To start with the latter: the bezels are not as thin as the photo makes you believe. Not even close. When turned off, you see a ~1mm thin raised bezel, but once you turn it on, there is a black border that is ~8mm wide. Big disappointment. Coming from an IPS panel, I also found the viewing angles to be bad. The slightest head movement changes the colors and this makes this monitor particularly bad for a triple setup where each monitor will be a different angle and colors or white will look quite different on each of them. For single monitor use, I guess this isnt a bad choice, given the price and features

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product its a great value for money monitor with some great features I would strongly suggest buying one... there is only 1 problem and that is the speakers on the monitor... they are very quiet even at top volume and don't have much bass but if you are getting one of these monitors you probably aren't getting it for the speakers

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product i bought this screen because my old one was a 19inch 720p screen that was kind of rubbish for playing games on and anything else (also it had a crack in it)... i took a chance when buying this screen as i didn't know the company turns out they are a good company that build quality products. there was no flex in the plastics of the screen (like there is with some of the other mass produced brands), the screen is great as its bright and clear... the only bad point about the screen is the speakers... but to be honest if you are using it to game chances are that you wont have sound coming through it anyway. 10/10 IGN

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great improvement I bought this screen to replace my current 27" screen, as I now game more on my PC i thought it needed it, my friend had just bought one also and was singing its praises. i looked at several options before choosing this screen and even had a chat instore with a member of staff just before purchasing. now thinking about a 2nd :-)

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Picture Colour Poor Was able to buy two of these monitors to go with a Samsung curved affair for a bit of Nvidia Surround fun. That is the fun part with a huge drawback that I never thought I would encounter with this particular brand. They look the part and work well to a point..... They are not as sharp as my two year old curved Sammy and its quite obvious the differences when gaming, sharp middle screen to two blurred sides in comparison. And for the colour differences. The Sammy has fantastic clean whites for web pages and Word docs etc. But the Iiyama's are poor to the point of distraction. Its like there is a hazy overlay to the whole picture which drabs the white and lessens the black text or shading. I have tried to lessen the Sammy's colours to try and get near to the same image quality as the Iiyama's but I cant. The Iiyama's adjustments just don't anywhere get near the Sammy with all its colours bells and whistles turned off. I now regret this purchase and wished I had gone to the likes of PC World etc. just so I could have seen the colour quality of other makes. I read many reviews and thought they were a good purchase but I can't recommend these monitors at all. For the life of me I cannot get these monitors to display a clear white screen as they continue to have a constant hue at all times and never very clear. Having two screens with both having the same issue I would walk away and try something you have seen to work and is right for you. Expensive mistake for myself and will probably seek another make next time.............
