Choosing a monitor is not an easy decision to make, and not just because of the large number of variations in resolution, refresh rates, sizes and connectivity options. There are also varying panel technologies used to form each display that need to be considered. These panel technologies can be grouped into three broad categories which cover the vast majority of monitors sold in the consumer market.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 22 reviewers.
Rated 5 out of 5 by Absolutely perfect When I purchased this I spent around 3 weeks trying to find a good re-seller with a good dead pixel policy. Then I could not hold the urge to buy this beauty any longer. When it arrive the box was a bit scuffed, which worried me. I took it out the box, no damage to the unit itself, it comes pre-built already to put on your desk. The monitor is very heavy compared to my old one. *note I went from 1080p to 1440p and it's beautiful. The monitor itself is soo nice to look at. ASUS did themselves good with the build quality, it puts other monitors to shame. It honestly doesn't do its justice in videos or pictures. The 165hz is perfect if you can have a game run at it, while I do not see the difference between 144hz - 165hz, it is still future proofed until we get 350hz.. or 1000hz. (Which will probably never happen). The IPS glow little to none when looking dead center of the monitor. It is only apparent when looking from left side on the bottom right where the buttons are. The interface of the monitor is easy to navigate. Hint for anyone who has the crosshair or the FPS counter stuck, hit the X button twice and it goes away. I spent all day with the crosshair on Youtube videos, so I know the feeling. Conclusion: If you can afford, buy it. You would be disappointed. I was going to get the TN version, but I've never had a IPS before and the image quality is just insane on this monitor. 10/10 ASUS. 04 April 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Got to be the best monitor right now Best monitor I've ever had, and it looks so cool, it is real quality 19 March 2016
Rated 2 out of 5 by Great product, poor support I received this monitor a few days after release, my old monitor had just broken a few days before the PG279Q launched so I held on to release day and was lucky enough not to have any dead pixels or dust behind the screen. The backlight bleed in one corner was noticeable and I had some slight colour shift too. Not really worth returning and I was happy with the product. When this monitor was working it was great, such a step up from my old 24 1080p, and g-sync worked flawlessly. I started with the TFT settings but it was too dark on mine, I had to turn brightness up to low 30's. However, the monitor developed a fault after 2 months, where it would keep defaulting to burn-in feature and Asus agreed to RMA it. Asus stated "as soon as they had received the faulty item, they would issue me with a credit" as they had no warranty repaired stock to replace it with. I thought it was strange as they did not offer any technical assistance - I would have been happy to try some things like firmware settings as it seemed a shame to send the monitor back for a replacement, when it seemed to be a software/firmware issue. A few days after the monitor was received by Asus, I contacted them asking about my credit, their reply was that it would now take 14 days to issue the credit. I was a bit angry as the first correspondence did not mention this delay, and I was without any screen (and PC effectively#. Two weeks and one day later I again contacted Asus, who informed me that they had forgot about my claim and it would now take a further 14 days to process! This means I have gone without a screen for over 1 month now #still waiting for a credit). Luckily I have borrowed a relatives 15 inch 10 year old display to get me by. This is not what I expect after spending £700. I am very disappointed and upset with Asus support, and I think while their product is great if you are lucky enough to get a good one, they can not back up their product with good support if there is a problem. Great product let down by poor QC and support. I have used Asus motherboards exclusively for a long time now, I can't see me sticking with the brand after this experience, or recommend to anyone else. I feel like I am cutting of my nose to spite my face as I love the product when working, but the support is making me reconsider buying a similar replacement. 18 March 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Great spec ,easy to set up Bought this after reading reviews and when it arrived I was not disappointed. Just the right size 27" screen , great specs easy to use and set up. With my new 980ti the G-sync works great ,different settings for certain games fps, role playing etc I've had no issues with picture quality at all. Would definitely recommend this monitor. 03 March 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Liquid perfection I bought this to replace my Dell 30" 2560x1600 60Hz. That had a great picture but I didn't realise how bad the stuttering & tearing can get in the thick of BF4 until I bought this beauty. I've not yet managed to OC it to 165Hz and save the setting but it can't be that difficult (others online have done it). Then again, I might not be able to tell the difference against 144Hz anyway because it's so smooth. I play BF4 (what a revelation) and Fallout 4 (again, an amazing step up) and am seeing both in a completely new light. The controls are easy to get the hang of too and it looks good (you can turn off the bright red base light). It's pricey but that's what a top quality G-Sync monitor is worth at the moment. 02 March 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Good My monitor is December 2015 batch, no problems at all. 02 March 2016
Rated 3 out of 5 by Great monitor if you are lucky enough to receive the flawless one Before purchase I read numerous complaints about common issues with dead pixels and bleeding of this monitor. It can happen to any brand or model therefore I decided to go ahead and buy one anyway. This is not what I'd expect from nearly £700 monitor, to put it politely. But lets start with the good sides. PG279Q itself looks great. It's made of quality materials and it's a pleasure to look at. The OSD is very convenient to use and offers a bunch of useful options. Personally I moved from 1920x1080 60hz monitor and I can clearly say the difference, both in gaming and casual use. Experience is way smoother. However, once I've used it for the first day I began to notice more and more defects of the screen. And from time to time I discover another ones! Due to high resolution the pixels are really tiny, therefore you might not notice theme at first glance, but once you did and you are aware of them, they start to bother you. I attached the pictures of what I've found so far. Considering the price range, it's a shame. Given that I've never had any of below issues on my previous "mid-range" £150 IPS monitor it's just unacceptable. I'm wondering if that qualifies for the replacement. According to the reviews of other customers across the internet and their RMA experience, it should. 22 February 2016
Rated 5 out of 5 by Asus PG279Q I love my new monitor. The quality is excellent and I have no backlight bleed or dead pixels. Paired with a GTX980TI its awesome in every game I've tried. The service from Scan was flawless as usual. 20 February 2016

Wall mountable/alternate stand?

Hi

Are you able to take the monitor off it's default stand and put it on another? Such as mounting it on a ScanFX TS633E.

Yes,

in the manual (which was on DVD) are basic instructions about unscrewing the stand for wall mounting.

Mine is still on its stand but on looking it appears there are just a couple of screws to undo to release the stand.

Is this monitor 3D? Is it worth the extra cost?

Is it 3D? The other, cheaper ASUS ROG model seems to be. This one isn't marked as having it, however.

I noticed this one is IPS as well, unlike the other ASUS ROG model on Scan. Is it worth the £200 extra? The 4K one seems to be the same price, also. (Although, it is only 60Hz and 4ms.)

I definitely want a G-Sync monitor and I have heard the ASUS ROG swift series is up there with the best. Its just a quest of which one to go with.

Answer:
Personally I think IPS is worth it for the better colour reporduction. I'm a designer too so it helps. Compared with my old monitor (which to be fair is quite old), this looks amazing. I was in your shoes a month or so ago, and chose not to go 4k, and go for this. Mainly because I prefer the refresh rates, but also although my PC is relatively powerful, it would struggle with 4k rendering.

I don't think it is 3d, but to be fair, you're probably better waiting for the Rift or other VR headsets if you want that kind of experience.

Answer:
The IPS version is not 3D on both 4k and 1440p panels.

The TN panel is 3D.

I've bought the IPS 1440p and trust me it is perfect.

Unless you have 2 980TI's for 4k, you'd be best with the 1440p to be closer to that 165hz refresh rate.

Is there a dead/stuck pixel policy for this monitor?

If there's a bad pixel on this monitor, will Scan replace it, or do I need to contact Asus?

Will Scan/Asus replace it for even 1 bad pixel or does there have to be a minimum amount?
