ASUS ROG STRIX XG259QN REFRESH RATE

ASUS Fast-IPSASUS Fast IPS Display allows the display’s liquid crystal elements to switch up to 10X faster than conventional IPS panels for improved response. With a 0.3ms response time, smearing and motion blur are virtually eliminated.

ASUS ROG STRIX XG259QN RESPONSE TIME

Super-speedy Refresh RateYou'll experience amazingly -fluid gaming visuals, giving you the upper hand in first-person shooters, racing, real-time strategy and sports titles.

Performance-Enhancing Features

Screen tearing is a visual artifact that occurs when the display's refresh rate and the graphics card's frame rate are not synchronised. It manifests as a horizontal split on the screen, where part of the image appears to be from one frame and the rest from another, leading to a misaligned display of graphics. This can be fixed with Adaptive-Sync technologies such as AMD’s FreeSync. ASUS' ELMB (Extreme Low Motion Blur) is another technology designed to reduce motion blur in fast-paced gaming scenarios, particularly when images move quickly across the screen. In simple terms, the monitor's backlight turns off (or strobes) between frames, reducing the perception of blur by shortening the duration of each frame.

SCREEN-TEARING WITH ADAPTIVE-SYNC OFF

Adaptive-Sync OFFScreen-tearing present due to graphics card and monitor frame rate not being synchronised.

SCREEN-TEARING ELIMINATED WITH ADAPTIVE-SYNC ON

Adaptive-Sync ONScreen-tearing eliminated thanks to AMD FreeSync Premium dynamically adjusting the monitors refresh rate to match the output of the GPU.

MOTION BLUR EXAMPLE

ELMB OFFVisual artifacts such as Smearing and Ghosting visible due to motion-blur in fast-paced games and content.

CLEAR IMAGE WITH ELMB SETTING ON

ELMB ONSmearing and Ghosting eliminated thanks to ELMB which uses backlight strobing to reduce frame duration.

NVIDIA G-Sync
NVIDIA G-Sync
Date Issued: 17th Dec 2013

G-SYNC works in a surprisingly simple way - it calculates how long the present frame takes to compute and then, crucially, varies the refresh rate of the monitor to match. It works between a minimum of 33.3ms (30fps) and the maximum supported refresh of the display. The key takeaway here is that the graphics card and monitor are both synced up to one another - the monitor doesn't have the limitations imposed by a rigid, fixed-rate scanning routine.
