The Price/Performance Tip

The ICY BOX IB-RD3620 is a 2x RAID system that was designed for working fast with big amounts of data. In the high quality aluminium enclosure, two SATA HDDs can be mounted without the use of any tool. The fast interfaces (eSATA, USB 3.0) make sure that data intensive programs, for example, video editing is always done in high performance on both PCs and Macs.


Thanks to the temperature controlled fan, the IB-RD 3620 is quiet and provide and cool operation temperature at all times. This item has a synchronised standby mode which help save the environment and save energy. Supported RAID modes are JBOD, BIG, RAID 0 (Striping) and RAID 1 (Mirroring).


A Good Team

It does not matter if you want to connect to a PC or a Mac, all that is needed is just one cable, USb 3.0 or eSATA, in order to get this dual 3.5" HDD data juggler. The available RAID levels are RAID 0, 1 and JBOD.


A Comfortable Exchange

The HDDs can be toollessly built into the device and detached from it too. This is achieved by the support for HotSwap and Plug & Play. No additional driver installation is necessary.


Hear a Pin Drop

The IB-RD3620U3 is very quiet thanks to the passive heat conduction of the high quality aluminium enclosure. Additionally, a temperature controlled fan is included in the enclosure in order to make sure the cool temperature is held at all times. The fan can be set into three RPM presets.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from doesn't restart on power restoration It seemed to be what I needed and I liked it when I started using it but I then found that on power failure and restore it doesn't self start. So it turns out to be not what I want as if I'm away from my home server, for which it is the storage back up, and there is a power interruption the server restarts but the back up doesn't. Not good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from External HDD RAID Case This is a very well made and attractive case and It offers the option of JBOD or Raid assembly. The controls are unobtrusive yet very attractive. The fan cooling system is very effective and very quite. A first class addition if you need cheap yet effective external storage.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good product Did some research before deciding on the Icy Box, glad I did as it was easy to set up, I would recommend that if anyone is going to buy this item to download the manual as it does make installation & set up relatively easy. Once setup then it is easy to connect to it. It is a fairly quiet unit, takes a few minutes to start up and get ready for use but there is a fairly loud "beep" to tell you it's ready to go.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Nice to look at but runs hot and constant! Looks really nice. Quite solid but badly designed front panel means that when it is shut the fan can't draw much air over the disks so they run at a higher temperature than I'd like. The biggest thing is the lack of support for spindown. The debate on whether it is better to keep hard disks running constantly or spinning down is irrelevant and should be a choice for the consumer. An option to turn on or off spin down is essential in my eyes. Unfortunately I only realised after it was too late to return, so this unit is now sitting redundant. I'm not leaving my data disks in an enclosure that runs hot and constant. The fan is also too loud at it's lowest setting.
