Product Overview

Award-Winning NF-F12 Design

The NF-F12 has earned over 150 awards and recommendations from international tech media, cementing its status as a premium 120mm fan. The NF-F12 industrialPPC 24V SP runs at an impressive 3000 RPM, delivering extreme airflow and static pressure. Built with the industrialPPC series’ reinforced polyamide frame and advanced protection features, this fan excels in demanding industrial and professional applications.

24V Single-Phase Performance

This SP variant employs Noctua’s NE-FD5 high-performance single-phase PWM motor driver. Its efficient commutation enables the 24V SP fan to match the airflow and pressure performance of previous three-phase industrialPPC models, while supporting precise PWM control.

Quiet Operation in 12V PC Setups

When powered with 12V, the NF-F12 industrialPPC SP slows to around 1100 RPM and can be further regulated via PWM. This allows it to be used in PC environments with significantly reduced noise while retaining key industrial-grade characteristics.

NE-FD5 PWM IC with SCD

The fan’s NE-FD5 PWM IC offers fully automatic speed control for 24V single-phase motors. It incorporates Noctua’s Smooth Commutation Drive (SCD) technology, suppressing PWM switching noise to keep operation quieter at lower speeds.

High Electrical Robustness

Designed to withstand bursts, surges, and transients, the 24V SP model can operate reliably in automotive and industrial environments where inductive loads or other voltage spikes are present.

Inrush Current Suppression

Voltage-stabilised inrush current suppression ensures smooth start-ups and minimizes transient spikes that could impact other components. This makes the fan suitable for sensitive electronic applications.

Three-Phase Motor Design

Unlike typical 4-slot single-phase axial fans, industrialPPC fans feature a 6-slot three-phase design. This delivers smoother transitions between slots, reducing vibrations and enhancing efficiency across the fan’s full speed range.

IP67 Water and Dust Protection

The IP67-rated NF-F12 has its motor and PCB fully encased in a high-thermal-conductivity resin, offering total dust tightness and protection against immersion in up to 1 m of water, while still efficiently dissipating heat from the motor.

Fibre-Glass Reinforced Polyamide Construction

Both the frame and impeller are made from fibre-glass reinforced polyamide, capable of withstanding temperatures up to 140 °C. This ensures exceptional durability and resistance to mechanical stress.

Focused Flow Frame

The Focused Flow frame, with its eleven stator guide vanes, directs airflow precisely for pressure-demanding tasks such as heatsinks and radiators. It allows the NF-F12 to deliver high static pressure without increasing speed.

AAO Frame

Noctua’s Advanced Acoustic Optimisation (AAO) frame incorporates anti-vibration pads, Stepped Inlet Design, and Inner Surface Microstructures to refine airflow and noise performance.

Stepped Inlet Design

By adding controlled turbulence at the fan inlet, the Stepped Inlet Design improves flow attachment, increases suction efficiency, and reduces tonal intake noise, particularly in confined spaces.

Inner Surface Microstructures

Microstructures on the inner frame surface suppress flow separation along the blade surfaces, cutting blade-passing noise while improving both airflow and pressure efficiency.

Integrated Anti-Vibration Pads

Extra-soft silicone pads reduce vibration transmission to the chassis, while remaining compatible with standard mounting screws and systems.

SSO2 Bearing

The NF-F12 industrialPPC uses Noctua’s second-generation SSO2 bearing. The repositioned rear magnet improves rotor stability, ensuring exceptional longevity and consistent performance.

Metal Bearing Shell

CNC-milled from brass, the metal bearing shell guarantees precise tolerances and long-term reliability, supporting the fan’s high-speed operation.

6-Year Manufacturer Warranty

With an MTTF rating exceeding 150,000 hours, the NF-F12 industrialPPC SP 24V exemplifies Noctua’s long-lasting quality. It comes backed by a 6-year manufacturer’s warranty for complete peace of mind.

The modern PC is potentially a mass of heat output and heat production hot spots. With CPUs rated at more than 100W of heat output, single graphics boards carrying similar ratings (and people want to run two!), multiple hard drives the norm, lots of memory and mainboards covered in heatpipes to combat toasty core logic and PWM circuits, a PC appreciably warming up a room when it’s working hard is no joke.

Watercooling
Date Issued: 19th Jun 2008

Watercooling for the PC has been around for years in some form or another, for at least as long as Scan have been in business, with basic physics defining why you want to use it. That means for air cooling, to cope with increasing temperature in the heatsink you need to move the air across it faster. That is why thermostatically controlled fans in your PC will turn faster the hotter something gets.

Anybody who has been near their share of computer systems will appreciate that not all systems make the same amount of noise. There are a number of reasons for why this is so. Firstly, a computer makes noise for different reasons. Generally, anything mechanical is going to make noise.
