DaVinci Resolve Features

Media
DaVinci Resolve features support for a wide variety of file formats, with ingestion and organisation being designed to ensure a quick workflow.

Edit
With a familiar look and feel, the traditional workflow makes it easy for new users to learn while being powerful enough for professional editors. It’s perfect for anything from commercials, documentaries and streaming to feature films and television shows.

Colour
Blackmagic pride themselves on having created Hollywood’s most advanced and accurate colour corrector. The intuitive UI allows for the perfect mood or look to be defined either through simple tools or far more advanced sets.

Fairlight
No longer do you need to load up other software or handover to another section of post-production, as Blackmagic have built Fairlight, their very own audio post-production section of DaVinci Resolve.

Fusion
Create, edit and implement outstanding visual effects in both 2D or 3D, seamlessly built into DaVinci Resolve.

Collaboration
DaVinci resolve is designed for collaboration. You can add users and all work on the same project at the same time, meaning editors, colourists, VFX artists, animators and sound engineers can all work together.
Streamlined for a purpose
Introduced in Version 16 and improved further in Version 17, is the Cut Page. Made with quick edits in mind, this is perfect for journalists, students, beginners, vloggers and high-end studios. Because of its compressed feature set, it’s ideal for smaller screens, but everything that is done in the Cut Page does translate over to the fully fledged video editing page, so you Cut, then Edit with a little more finesse or add effects not available in in the Cut Page by itself.
A different way to edit

Source Tape
Source Tape displays all your clips in one long timeline in the Source window, which you can then flow through seamlessly without having to click each clip individually. This reduces work time when you’re on a tight deadline, but also helps with interviews or even gameplay.

Timeline
The Cut Page introduces a unique timeline to fit in with the streamlined workflow. Chunkier and easy to scrub through, it’s far easier to edit on a smaller screen or quick projects with this view!

Quick Review
Resolve will fly through your timeline so you can make sure your content is up to scratch, without having to sit through the whole thing in real time.

Control
While the Cut Page might reduce down the workflow by streamlining the core features, all the transform controls you need are still there. Change audio levels, zooms and crop or add text without having to leave the Cut page at all!
Take control of the timeline

Smart Insert
Let DaVinci Resolve take control of where the clip needs to go. This is perfect for quick edits, placing the clip in the nearest edit.

Append to End
Immediately add a clip to the very end of the timeline, for building out an edit incredibly quickly.

Ripple Overwrite
Instantly replace a clip with another on the timeline, even if it’s a different length. Resolve will adjust the timeline to accommodate it.

Close Up
Want to create two shots out of the single one you got originally? Shoot wide, get a sneaky zoom with this function.

Place on Top
Place a source on top of the background in the timeline, without having to drag and drop into place.

Source Overwrite
This is brilliant for those that use sync timecodes and multiple cameras, as Resolve will automatically match source to timeline and places it on top.
Facial Recognition
Using DaVinci Neural Engine you can now use facial recognition to create media bins for individuals based on their face. This really cuts down on time spent organising your media and makes it much easier to edit quickly.

Frame.io integration
Don’t bog you or your team down when you’re in the middle of an edit and need feedback. Don’t confuse a client by sending them a link to a Dropbox or Google Drive where you’ve forgotten the permissions. DaVinci Resolve supports Frame.io, a collaborative piece of software that annotates and shares videos.
Custom Sizes
DaVinci Resolve's ability to deal with multiple timelines at once helps with modern social media requirements. In the same Project you can set different timelines at different resolutions to meet the needs of vertical, square and landscape video.

A different way to edit
The cut page has now been improved making it even easier to finish quick turnaround projects even faster. The updated metadata view only makes it easier to find clips based on scene, shot, camera and more. Larger audio waveforms mean you can see where the dialogue is when looking for where to trim clips. And when exporting versions for social media, such as a vertical version for Instagram, the DaVinci Neural Engine can automatically identify faces and repositions them inside the new frame.
Fusion gets even stronger
Fusion is an incredible tool that allows you to create cinematic visuals effects and broadcast quality motion graphics, all inside DaVinci Resolve without the need for using separate software. Version 17 only sees it becoming more powerful, you can now save compositions as a template and integrate them straight on to the edit or cut page. There are also 27 GPU accelerated Resolve FX that have been added.
Colour Improvements
The DaVinci Resolve Color page is industry standard and has been used on more high-end feature films and televisions show than any other system. It’s also designed for new users to pick up while they learn the advanced tools. There’s a load of new features released in Version 17, such as the HDR palette, magic mask tool and color warper.
Fairlight's biggest update
Fairlight is another great part of Resolve where you get all the tools you would expect in a professional digital audio workstation built into Resolve. Version 17 sees the biggest update to Fairlight yet, with a new high performance audio engine, Fairlight Audio Core, that lets you work on up to 2,000 tracks with real-time effects, EQ and dynamic processing.
Resolve FX
Adding 11 new plugins to an already impressive library such as detail recovery, 3D keyer, motion trails and noise reduction, DaVinci Resolve Studio 17 now features over 100 GPU and CPU accelerated Resolve FX. All Resolve FX can be animated, giving you complete creative control.

DaVinci Resolve Keyboard
The DaVinci Resolve Editor Keyboard is built from the ground up to be used with Blackmagic Design’s excellent video editing software, slotting straight into the workflow perfectly for the new DaVinci Resolve 17.
