Category A1 UAS

Category A1 drones are the small drones you can fly with the fewest restrictions in the UK. Under the Civil Aviation Authority's (CAA) Open Category rules, they can fly over uninvolved people (but never over crowds) and in residential, commercial, industrial and recreational areas.

A drone can fly in the Over People (A1) subcategory if it weighs under 250 g and has no class mark, if it carries a UK0 or UK1 class mark, or if it carries an EU C0 or C1 class mark. This page includes compact camera drones such as the DJI Mini, Flip and Lito ranges, the Autel EVO Nano and the Antigravity A1 360° drone.

You need a Flyer ID for any drone of 100 g or more, and an Operator ID if your drone has a camera or weighs 250 g or more. You get both online from the CAA. Check each drone's weight and class mark on its product page, and read the CAA's Drone Code before your first flight.
