The Ubiquiti Cloud Gateway Max is a compact, desktop-form cloud gateway that combines high-performance routing, robust security, flexible networking, and built-in NVR storage - all under the umbrella of the full UniFi OS ecosystem. It delivers fast 2.5GbE connectivity across WAN and LAN, supports a substantial number of managed devices and clients, and includes onboard NVMe storage to host surveillance video locally. This all-in-one approach simplifies network architecture for homes, small offices, or branch sites - offering unified control over wired and wireless devices, cameras, VPNs, firewall policies, and more - with no need for extra devices.

Capacity & Device Management

The Gateway Max is rated to manage 30+ UniFi-brand devices (such as access points, switches, cameras, or access hubs) and support 300+ simultaneous client connections (phones, laptops, IoT devices, etc.). For video surveillance under the UniFi Protect application, it supports up to 15 HD, 8 2K, or 5 4K cameras at once. This capacity makes the gateway suitable not only for typical home networks but also for more complex setups such as multi-device households, small enterprises, or tech-heavy office environments, without reducing performance.

High-Speed Connectivity & Flexibility

The Gateway Max comes with a total of five 2.5GbE RJ45 Ethernet ports: one dedicated WAN port and four LAN ports, one of which can be reconfigured as an additional WAN port, providing support multi-WAN setups. All ports support 2.5G/1G/100M/10M auto-negotiation for broad flexibility.

With security (IDS/IPS) enabled, the gateway delivers up to 2.3 Gbps routing throughput, offering enough bandwidth to support fast ISP lines, internal transfers, VPN tunnels and heavy device traffic simultaneously. This combination of multi-gigabit ports and robust throughput ensures the gateway can handle high-speed internet connections and intensive local network usage without becoming a bottleneck.

Enterprise Grade Control

Security is a major strength of the Gateway Max. It includes a stateful firewall, application-aware Layer 7 firewall, deep packet inspection (DPI) and traffic identification, along with content filtering, ad filtering, and zone/app/domain-based filtering for granular control. On the VPN and remote-access side, the gateway supports a broad array of protocols and features, with license-free SD-WAN, site-to-site VPN via IPsec, OpenVPN, L2TP, client/server modes, zero-configuration VPN via Teleport / Identity VPN, WireGuard, and policy-based WAN/VPN routing.

Advanced networking features include multi-WAN load balancing and failover, dynamic routing (OSPF), VLAN/subnet segmentation, customisable DHCP & NAT, QoS, mDNS/IGMP proxy, IPv6 support, integrated RADIUS + RadSec authentication, and internet-quality/outage reporting.

Together, these features give administrators fine-grained control over network traffic, security policies, remote access, and failover, making the gateway suitable for business-grade environments while remaining accessible for advanced home users.

Built-in Video Management

Distinct from many other routers or gateways, the Gateway Max includes a 512GB NVMe SSD pre-installed, enabling local NVR (Network Video Recorder) functionality under UniFi Protect, so you can store and manage video footage directly on the unit without needing a separate NVR device or NAS. This built-in storage simplifies camera deployments and reduces hardware overhead, which can be particularly useful for small offices, retail premises, home security systems, or any environment where you want surveillance and network control in a single device. The fast internal SSD also helps avoid performance bottlenecks related to external storage or network-mounted recording solutions.

Efficient, Compact and Quiet

The Gateway Max is powered by a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 CPU clocked at 1.5 GHz, paired with 3 GB DDR4 RAM, sufficient to handle routing, VPNs, IDS/IPS, NVR storage, and device management simultaneously. The enclosure is made of durable but light polycarbonate, whilst power is supplied via USB-C with the included adapter (maximum power consumption hovers around 16.1 Watts). A 0.96" status display provides at-a-glance info, with the unit itself offering a silent, low-maintenance experience thanks to it being fanless.
