Home Networking
Home Networking
Date Issued: 26th Oct 2006

As a growing number of homes contain more than one computer, their users must find ways to network them. The primary purpose for creating a home network tends to be to provide Internet access to all computers within the house. There are other good reasons, however. These include enabling LAN gaming, data backups from one machine to another and the sharing of music within the home.

Ubiquiti AmpliFi HD Mesh WiFi System, inc Router, 2x MeshPoints, 1750Mbps, Dual-Band, a/b/g/n/ac - UK Model is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from An excellent WiFi system I very rarely use the supplied modem/router combination from the service provider because they're generally not very good. I've been buying what I would class mid-range routers, but I was never fully happy with them. I wasn't getting the best speed on my devices and I would have network dropouts. I've been considering this product for a while now, because it's expensive in comparison to the routers I've been buying. I finally took the plunge though and I'm so glad I did. Setup was extremely easy, it was pretty much plug and play. The increase in performance and stability was clear from the start. I now get full WiFi signal across my entire house and into the garden (partly down to where I've placed my mesh points). I get fast and stable WiFi on all my devices. The only thing that surprised me, the mesh points were bigger than I was expecting. If you're thinking about getting this but the price is holding you back, I say go for it. I've been so pleased with it, I haven't even thought twice about what I paid for it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from WiFi problems sorted I'd struggled for a while with getting consistent wifi performance no matter where I was in the house. With thick brick interior walls, once I left the front room, where the router is, speeds really dropped. Various repeaters I'd tried never changed much. AmpliFi did. Top quality product, and now speeds are MUCH better in the whole house and into the garden too. It's not cheap, but so much better than the rest and has cured years of me struggling to sort out my wifi. Very happy and well worth spending the extra. No point in paying less, but not fixing things.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Simple setup, great coverage and speeds Previously used a netgear modem/router which was good enough for my small flat, but could not cope with the large, Victorian, brick walled, 3 bed house I have moved into. I bought the Amplifi mesh system and set about installing it. After putting my virgin router into modem mode, and disabling VPNs setting up the router was straight forward. The satellite units sort themselves out. literally just plug them in and wait. I have the satellites daisy-chaining away from the router with no significant drop in performance. The rear bedroom has wifi through the 2nd satellite transmitted from the floor below - but is able to comfortably stream netflix. Port forwarding, security settings, guest networks and device blocking / timetabling is all an absolute synch. Highly Highly recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product is fantastic to enhance home Wifi through the house I have recently moved house and due to the age of the property and the thickness of the walls, I had many wifi blackspot. Having done various research I decided to buy this product and I am very pleased with the results. No more blackspot in the house, consistent signal and no problem setting up with multiple devices. The set-up through the recommended App is so simple and is set-up within 15 minutes of opening the box. I know this is expensive compared to other products, but you get what you paid for and this has been great compared to other products. Highly recommend to anybody. I have used this for my 4G Network as well due to being in a rural location.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Super kit The unit I received from Scan is the UK model. There are three pin plugs on both the power adaptor and the two mesh points. A unit ordered from another UK based supplier previously had 2 round pins on each. The Scan packaging is marked UK rather than EU on the other. The product is first rate. I have connected it to my EE fibre modem in bridge mode, having disabled wireless on the modem. The set up with the Android app was very straightforward. I now have a stable 5GHz network through out the house. Much better than having separate access points, that devices had to log on to. As I move through the house my tablet logs on to the nearest mesh point seamlessly, maintaining a strong signal. My wireless download speeds are now consistently good.

Will this mesh network work with a BT Smarthub

I have the latest BT smarthub running BT infinity 2 & want to extend my network to deadsports within the house. Can the Smarthub just act as a modem to allow the Amplifi to be my router & mesh network???
Asked by: Baldrick2
Hello, You would be best to check this with BT too as it may vary depending on the current setup but providing your current router can be used as a modem that should be fine to do. Regards,
