"People often ask what studio headphones they should get without spending hundreds of pounds and one of my absolute favourites is the Sennheiser HD560S, so we've paired them up with some of our favourite inexpensive interfaces , with powerful, quiet mic preamps that will give any bedroom producer a real head start.

HD560S have got a well balanced tone, with deeper bass extension than the more expensive studio staples, HD600 & HD650, so a lot more suitable for electronic producers. The bass is not over-emphasised, unlike most closed back models at the same price, following more closely the 'mastering suite' flat type response than something designed for music listening. They have a tiny 2dB rolloff at 35Hz (C#1), which is really as low as you should go for 99% commercial music if you want it to play back properly on most big systems. You'll definitely get a lot better translation mixing bass on these headphones than in any small room, however much acoustic treatment you have!

'Born for live Streaming'Streaming directly to social media on your phone is easy, most high end phones have excellent cameras, but built in audio audio is always lacking from the phone mic and you cant integrate other sounds at the same time.

The Topping Pro E2x2 is perfect to solve this problem for livestreams, as alongside dual mic / instrument inputs, it has a dedicated OTG port to connect to a phone for streaming and an additional USB-C port that can connect to a second mobile device or computer at the same time. The second device could be providing audio playback for backing tracks, or you could connect to a computer and have the mic or instrument processed in a DAW, combined with other sources from the computer and then fed back into the interface and into the OTG connected device. There is also a third USB-C port that can be used for additional power from a standard USB power source when using mobile devices that cannot supply enough current, or to not drain its battery. The low-noise, ultra linear preamp is suitable for any microphone including condensers requiring phantom power and low output dynamic mics such as the SM7b. Topping’s custom LNRD power supply ensures that even at maximum gain, every detail is perfectly captured.

The Control Panel software for for Mac or PC gives you four separate mixes, these are not just for monitoring, but control the routing of signals so you could create a separate mix that goes out to stream, or have audio processed on inside a DAW in the computer and then fed back out to stream in real time. You get 4 stereo channels from your DAW into this mixer and 3 Stereo loopback channels that can be used to capture the output of your interface or application and then feed it back to an input. The unit remembers the last used control panel settings, so you could configure it on a computer and then connect two mobile devices, which will use the same settings.

The Topping Pro headphone amplifier is the best that the Scan team have ever seen in a USB bus powered interface, with almost six times the average power available than other usb interfaces. With only 1 Ohm output impedance, It is suitable and will provide a linear frequency output from the interface for all headphones, including high impedance and low sensitivity models.

The two gain settings means you can maximise the useful area of control across the whole volume range for both sensitive IEM’s and power hungry headphones. E2x2 OTG is fully compatible with Windows, Mac, iOS, Android and other operating systems. It supports up to 24 bit audio from 44.1 kHz to 192kHz on the USB-C computer port, although OTG audio is limited to 48kHz.
