High Resolution
Beautiful BokehEvery aspect of the SP 70-200mm F/2.8 G2 (Model A025) zoom has been improved, providing high image quality and enhanced bokeh throughout. Optical design features include XLD (eXtra Low Dispersion) and LD (Low Dispersion) glass to eliminate chromatic aberrations across the entire zoom range, ensuring optimum resolution— even at the edges. eBAND Coating designed exclusively for this new zoom offers superior anti- reflection properties, greatly minimizing flare and ghosting. And refined bokeh provides spectacular background effects from nearly any angle.
Reduced Minimum Object Distance
Reduced To 0.95mImprovements to the new SP 70-200mm F/2.8 G2 extend well into the lens barrel. Tamron has reduced the MOD from 1.3m (50.7 in) in our older model to 0.95m (37.4 in), allowing a maximum magnification ratio of 1:6.1. The shorter MOD, coupled with the superb optical performance of this new zoom, allows you to significantly broaden your range of expression.
Ultrasonic Silent Drive
Accuracy in actionThe USD (Ultrasonic Silent Drive) ring-type motor, along with two high-performance microcomputers, ensures excellent focusing speed and accuracy. The Full-time Manual Focus override allows you to make fine adjustments while using AF, without having to switch from AF to MF mode.
VC Equal To 5 Stops
Keep It SteadyTamron’s best-in-class VC image stabilization performance is equivalent to 5 stops, according to CIPA standards. Plus, this lens offers a choice of three VC modes, including one exclusively for panning. Now you can match the VC mode to your shooting conditions and enjoy sharp, jitter-free handheld shooting—even in low light.

Dual Microprocessing UnitLenses with DMPU are characterised by their particularly high performance. The dual processor processes the digital signals from the autofocus and the VC image stabiliser in parallel to achieve razor-sharp image results even in dynamic shooting situations.
Internal FocusInternal focusing prevents the barrel from extending and rotating during focusing. The lens is easier to handle and is suitable for use with polarising or gradation filters.
Zoom LockThe ZL mechanism prevents unwanted extension of the tube during transport. The lock, which is activated by a switch, protects the lens from damage and at the same time guarantees that it is quickly ready for use.
Low DispersionLD elements have particularly low colour dispersion index. They reduce chromatic aberrations that appear as colour fringes on the contrast edges and reduce image sharpness.
Extended Bandwidth and Angular DependencyThe eBAND coating consists of an ultra-thin nanostructure (1 nm = 1/1.000.000 mm) with a very low refractive index. In combination with the multi-coating, an outstanding anti-reflective effect is achieved.
Fluorine CoatingFluorine Coating protects the front lens from contamination. It prevents oil and water droplets from sticking to the surface. Fingerprints and dirt are easier to remove.
Moisture Resistant ConstructionThe lens is splash-resistant. All critical areas have special seals. Lenses with this feature are ideal for outdoor use in bad weather.
Ultrasonic Silent DriveUltrasonic autofocus motors are usually found in high-quality DSLR lenses. USD technology converts ultrasonic waves into torque and eliminates the need for gearing between the motor and the focus unit. Vibration CompensationTamron-developed image stabilisation that compensates for unwanted camera movement for sharper images. Shutter speeds of up to 5 EV stops slower are possible with the VC image stabiliser.
