Product Overview The SV431USB 4 Port rack mountable VGA USB KVM Switch with Hub offers simple control of up to four computers from a single monitor/display and USB peripheral set (keyboard, mouse).

The USB KVM switch features an integrated 4 port USB hub, allowing you to share connected USB peripherals between the four controlled PC/Mac computers as though the devices were connected directly.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Recommended - with caveats In theory this is a great product, simple to set up and use. In practice your mileage may vary depending on whether the machines you want to use it with are capable of recognising peripherals after you've been switching between machines (it claims the switching process is equivalent to unplugging from one and plugging into another, but my PC just doesn't seem to recognise the disconnect). If you can get into the BIOS and both find and change the settings it points you to in the instruction manual (PNP OS and USB IRQ) then you'll probably be fine; if you're like me and can't, you're still going to be stuck with extra sets of peripherals for one or more of your machines. I suspect this may mostly be an issue with older systems (my BIOS is a gigabyte one from 2011), which is why I'm not returning the switch, as I'm anticipating getting a newer system later in the year. Physically the startech switch is gorgeous; it's solid and compact, and even with all the cables hanging over the back edge of my desk (with it sat right at the edge) it isn't the slightest bit unsteady when I press the buttons to switch between systems. It also has a nice flat top to it, so you can stack a compact desk tidy or other switches on top, which lets you claim back some of the space it's using.
