The Babyface Pro FS is a compact USB audio interface that packs a serious amount of recording and monitoring capability into a portable, bus-powered design. Built around RME's established driver and conversion technology, it offers the performance and flexibility you'd expect from a professional interface, while remaining small enough to take wherever your work takes you.
The interface provides two digitally controlled mic/line inputs on XLR, along with two 6.3mm inputs for line-level or instrument sources. There are balanced XLR outputs for connecting monitors, plus dedicated 6.3mm and 3.5mm headphone outputs with separate driver stages. The 3.5mm output has an exceptionally low 0.1-ohm output impedance and up to 90mW of power, making the Babyface Pro FS equally well suited to detailed headphone monitoring.
Digital expansion is handled via optical ADAT I/O, supporting up to 192kHz operation with S/MUX, while MIDI I/O is provided via the supplied breakout cable. The interface can run from USB bus power, making it a particularly practical choice for mobile recording, remote sessions and compact desktop systems.
RME's TotalMix FX software provides extensive routing and monitoring control, including independent submixes, a three-band parametric EQ, reverb and echo. The Babyface Pro FS also incorporates RME's SteadyClock FS technology for low-jitter, highly stable digital clocking, alongside improved analogue circuitry and conversion performance over the original Babyface Pro.
Finished in a machined aluminium chassis, the Babyface Pro FS is a properly professional interface rather than a stripped-back portable compromise. Whether it's being used as the centre of a compact studio, a mobile recording rig or a high-quality headphone monitoring system, it offers the connectivity, control and technical performance to handle demanding work without taking up much space.

Newly designed circuitry
The main I/O on the Babyface sports a completely newly designed XLR socket, which sits nicely on the rear panel of the chassis and saves space. The dual headphone outs offer both TRS and mini-jack sockets, each of these have their own independent driver stages to perfectly sync low and high impedance headphones, ensuring professional audio quality is delivered regardless of what type of headphone is utilised.
Two digitally controlled preamps deliver individually switchable 48v Phantom Power. These newly designed circuits boast a gain range of 76dB, adjustable in 1dB increments, a relay-driven PAD, which delivers incredible EIN (Equivalent Input Noise) performance as well as line overload protection, and plenty of gain for even the lowest level microphones.
Percect for mobile studio use
The admirably efficient design of the Babyface Pro means that you’ll almost never have the need for an external power supply, it’s perfectly capable running on USB 3 bus power, aswell as most USB 2 ports, without any loss of performance or technical specification degradation. This makes the Babyface Pro a great choice for mobile studio use.
The long list of impressive features does not stop there, the Babyface Pro has an optical TOSLINK I/O; able to be used as an ADAT port with SMUX support or SPDIF for sessions upto 192kHz. In combination with the use of an external ADAT converter, the Babyface Pro is fully capable of supporting 12 analogue inputs aswell as 12 outputs, making this the ideal choice for both live and studio multi-track use. Plug any instrument, line or high impedance into the Babyface Pro’s jack inputs 3 & 4. MIDI I/O are also available, rounding off this impressive list of features.
