Highly Responsive Versatile Distortion Effect With Incredible Dynamic Range
Another pedal from the stable of Bjorn Juhl design, with this unit Bjorn claims to be creating "A tight, fat low end. Free from any artificial treble buzz. A lowered guitar volume that dilutes high frequency saturation. A sufficiently solid and organic sound, a long-lasting sustain that fades out in a natural way…"
Distortion itself has traditionally been associated with a hard wall of dirt that doesn't pay much attention to the player's dynamics, or picking style, preferring instead to assault the ears of the listener with a full on unchanging tone of filth. It has always been the Overdrive pedals that have looked more to controllability and dynamism, reacting to how its being played etc. with this pedal though, One Control are attempting to "break through the conventional image associated with distortion pedals and embody a new definition. "
So in a nutshell, they are offering to give the same kind of dynamic control we associate with Overdrive pedals to this distortion unit.
And to be fair, it works…. The ADB gives you a fine distortion that works great in front of all sorts of different amps, and with all sorts of pick-up types. It allows you full control over the distortion via an extremely wide and high gain range of +26db to +60db. At the lower gain settings, you can conjure up some very believable tube amp type distortion and at the full stretch, still have access to the nuances of your playing.
