Product Overview Probably the biggest technical advancement of the last decade in the field of PC cooling has been the invention of the thermal heatpipe. This has allowed a much greater efficiency of heatsink to be designed since heatpipes are good at moving heat from one location to another, both quickly and silently.

However, the performance of heatpipes has been limited by their internal design, which relies on cyclic evaporation and condensation of the water inside them. That is until now! The next generation heatpipe has arrived - it's smaller, lighter, wickless and offers a massive improvement in performance. Its design is patented by Nofan Corporation of South Korea, and it's called the IcePipe.

The holy grail of quiet computing is excellent cooling without resorting to the use of a fan. Rather than using forced airflow along with its associated problems (noise, dust-build up, bearing wear and limited lifespan), convection cooling is undoubtedly the technology of the future and because of the IcePipe, this is now a realistic possibility.

The exact details of how the IcePipe works are a trade secret, but in essence it operates by liquid capillary action. By making the pipe very small, natural perpetual circulation of the liquid inside takes place and heat is efficiently dissipated into the attached heatsink fins. Of course, like conventional heatpipes, the IcePipes are permanently sealed in the factory so that no liquid can ever escape. Features The CR-95C is Nofan's flagship CPU cooler and replaces the CR-100A which was a slightly larger first-generation version. Because the CR-95C is physically a little smaller, it has much improved compatibility because of reduced interference with other motherboard components. It is certainly a thing of great beauty and if you happen to have a side-window in your PC, a definite talking point!

The primary consideration with the CR-95C (like all CPU coolers) is its ability to cool hot-running processors. The heat generated by a CPU is defined by its TDP (thermal design power) and is measured in watts. Newer processors tend to run cooler than previous generation models, although there will always be a trade-off between speed and heat. The CR-95C can continuously and silently cool any processor with a TDP specification of 95 watts and under, which includes the majority of processors on the market today - even high performance ones.

More recently, Nofan launched another version of the IcePipe: the CR-80EH. This is a smaller, cheaper version but is still capable of cooling processors with a TDP figure of up to 80 watts. Motherboard compatibility is enhanced and because of its smaller radius, the likelihood of adjacent PCI slot obstruction is reduced.

Nofan Copper IcePipe CPU Cooler, 80W, Fanless, For All Intel & AMD CPU's is rated 4.7 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not nearly as effective as it suggests I use this passive CPU cooler with a Ryzen 3 3200 in a seldom utilised NAS in an mATX CASE WITH A SINGLE 120 Noctura case fan. The PSU is venting outside the case and there is no Graphics card. There isn’t a lot of heat generated. The old setup was using the standard wraith cooler that came with the CPU. It managed an average temp of 22-24c. With this cooler it’s now 42-44c. FYI the case has a top vent and unobstructed airflow. The CPU has not been overclocked and rarely utilsed 5 high capacity HDD’s. It’s running FreeNAS.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Dead silent and easy to install My CPU fan started to show its age and I was looking for a new cooling solution. Always looking to make my PC as silent as possible without it costing too much - this was the perfect solution. Super easy to install, completely silent (no moving parts), and as far as I can tell the CPU temperatures are well within acceptable range. Super happy with this purchase!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing bit of kit! Looks beutiful, simple to install, works well and its 100% silent! I can now hear my mechanical drives! In this heat wave were' experiencing the hottest its gooton was 65 degrees. I am using it with a i5 8400 and have one small case fan.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than I expected I have this on an Intel Skylake Core i7 6700 and with no fans at all running anywhere in my system (not even a case fan) it maintains less than 40c during normal use. If I run all 8 i7 cores (4 physical + HT) flat out continuously for hours and hours with the case lid on and nothing but a nearby 120mm case fan running almost as slow as it will go (1000rpm) the CPU still only reaches 57c. I can thoroughly recommend this product. The only thing I would point out is you need access to the rear of your motherboard for installation, please allow for that.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Looks good and works well A little fiddly to fix which means it takes 5 minutes rather than other snap-on coolers. Looks excellent in a clear-sided case. Works very well, everything stays well out of the temperature danger zone, and that's on a TD65W i3 sometimes running full-tilt for a few hours. Arrived with no fixings but Scan sorted that little problem out for me very quickly and efficiently.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great cooler for a good price Coupled with a silent PSU this finished off my HTPC/NAS system very nicely. You pretty much wouldn't know the system was powered on unless you are right up close to it to hear the case fans and the HDD's Not concerned about Temp's as the system it is in is never going to be under big loads, but even so my cpu is a 55W TDP intel, so well within the limits of this cooler anyway!.
