Date Issued: 24th Aug 2016

The market for graphics cards priced at £250 has been hotting up since both AMD and Nvidia released GPUs based on their latest architectures. AMD has been more eager to pinpoint the sub-£200 market with two GPUs - the Radeon RX 480 and Radeon RX 470. Specifically, if you can find one, the Sapphire RX 480 Nitro 4GB is arguably the best card south of this all-important figure.

MSI GeForce GTX 1060 3GT OC 3GB GDDR5 VR Ready Graphics Card, 1152 Core, 1544MHz GPU, 1759MHz Boost is rated 5.0 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good graphics, good miner Can mine with 50W @ 18MH/s (Ethereum), better than Radeon

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best card for 2K and some 3K gaming The 3GB 1060 remains a great choice despite the arrival of the new Radeon RX580. It runs cool and quiet, and can be easily overclocked further using MSI's Afterburner software - I got mine to run 2-3fps faster on Unigine after tweaking the settings. MSI reputation for excellent graphics card build quality is deserved and I look forward to a couple of years happy gaming with this

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good card Great card for 1080p gaming. 60 + FPS with all the games I've tried. Good value for money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great card for the price Normally purchase Radeon's but this card's performance for the price break was too good to miss. Very similar performance to equivalent Radeon but £20-50 cheaper. Easy to install and load latest drivers, highly recommended

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant graphics card for the price. It performs excellently with recent titles like Dishonored 2, handling solid 60 at high, which is impressive considering the horrendous optimization that game has. It also can run GTA5 on Very high, solid 60, along with BF1 and numerous others. If you plan to play games at 1080p at max settings, this is the best card for your money.

Questions & Answers

Length of graphics cards

Is the longest dimension you give for graphics cards the overall length including the metal bracket at the end? I ask because I'm looking at replacing my existing card (probably with an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060), and it seems that the length may be an issue fitting into my Antec Three Hundred case. The card I'm considering (MSI NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 3GB ARMOR OC) looks marginal as far as fitting if the length doesn't include the bracket, though it will clearly be ok otherwise. Thanks, Andy.
Asked by: AndyW
Hi Andy, I believe the length measurement is the length of the entire component. Even so, if the metal bracket at the end is causing you space issues, you should really consider a bigger case or smaller graphics card as the metal bracket adds only a few millimeters! I would recommend going to a local hardware shop and asking if they have your desired graphics card in stock for you to see whether its too big. Take some space measurements from inside your case with you and ask the guys there for help. Thanks, David
