Designed for AMD Ryzen gaming systems, the MSI B550 GAMING combines the AMD B550 chipset with an AM4 socket, DDR4 memory support, PCIe 4.0 connectivity, dual M.2 storage, 1Gbps LAN, and a comprehensive selection of USB connections. With support for AMD Ryzen 5000 and 3000 Series processors, Ryzen 5000 G-Series and 4000 G-Series processors, up to 128GB of DDR4 memory, and MSI technologies including Core Boost, Memory Boost, M.2 Shield Frozr, and EZ DIY features, it provides a versatile foundation for gaming and everyday high-performance desktop builds.

AMD Ryzen AM4 Platform

The B550 GAMING is built around the AMD B550 chipset and AM4 socket, supporting AMD Ryzen 5000 and 3000 Series desktop processors alongside Ryzen 5000 G-Series and 4000 G-Series processors. It is not compatible with the AMD Ryzen 5 3400G or Ryzen 3 3200G.

DDR4 Memory Support

Four DDR4 DIMM slots provide support for up to 128GB of memory across a dual-channel architecture. Compatible memory can operate at speeds ranging from 2667MHz to 4866+MHz through A-XMP overclocking, with supported speeds dependent on the installed CPU and memory configuration. The board supports non-ECC UDIMM, ECC UDIMM in non-ECC mode, and unbuffered memory.

PCIe 4.0 Expansion

The primary PCIe x16 slot uses PCIe 4.0 connectivity directly from the processor, providing up to x16 bandwidth for compatible graphics cards and expansion hardware. A secondary PCIe x16-length slot operates at PCIe 3.0 x4 through the chipset, while a PCIe 3.0 x1 slot provides additional expansion capability. The primary slot also benefits from MSI Steel Armor reinforcement for improved support of heavier graphics cards.

Dual M.2 Storage

Two M.2 slots provide fast NVMe storage expansion, with the primary M.2_1 slot supporting PCIe 4.0 x4 or SATA mode and compatible 2242, 2260, 2280, and 22110 devices. The secondary M.2_2 slot supports PCIe 3.0 x4 and 2242, 2260, and 2280 devices. Six SATA 6Gbps ports provide additional storage connectivity, while M.2 Shield Frozr helps protect compatible M.2 SSDs and maintain performance.

Core Boost Power Delivery

MSI's 8+2+1 Duet Rail Power System and Core Boost technology provide a power delivery platform designed for stable CPU operation. Core Boost combines an optimised motherboard layout with power design intended to provide precise current delivery to the processor, supporting multi-core CPUs and CPU overclocking.

Enhanced Thermal Management

The extended heatsink design increases the available surface area for heat dissipation during demanding workloads, while 7W/mK MOSFET thermal pads and additional choke thermal pads help manage heat around the power delivery components. M.2 Shield Frozr provides additional thermal protection for compatible SSDs, and dedicated pump and system fan headers provide flexibility for air and liquid cooling configurations.

High-Speed USB Connectivity

The B550 GAMING provides a broad range of USB connectivity, including rear USB 10Gbps Type-A and Type-C ports, USB 5Gbps Type-A connections, and USB 2.0 ports. Front-panel headers add USB 5Gbps Type-A and Type-C connectivity, providing convenient access to modern peripherals and front-mounted case ports.

1Gbps Networking

A Realtek 8111H 1Gbps LAN controller provides wired network connectivity for gaming, streaming, and general desktop use. MSI AI LAN Manager can automatically prioritise latency-sensitive applications such as online games, while also allowing users to adjust application traffic priority and bandwidth allocation.

7.1-Channel Audio

The integrated Realtek ALC897 audio solution provides 7.1-channel High Definition Audio. MSI Audio Boost incorporates an isolated analogue structure, high-quality audio components and audio connectors to help deliver clear, separated audio for gaming, media, and everyday desktop use.

EZ DIY and BIOS Features

MSI's EZ DIY features simplify installation, configuration, and maintenance. The enlarged PCIe clip makes graphics cards easier to install and remove, while the Flash BIOS Button allows the BIOS to be updated with only a connected power supply, without requiring a CPU or memory. EZ Debug LEDs help identify hardware issues, while Click BIOS 5 provides access to A-XMP, Game Boost, M-FLASH, hardware monitoring, and other system configuration options.
