Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good kit for beginners Never used one of these before but easy to install and doubled the amount of sata drives I could use. If I could afford it though I would still recommend one of the pcie sata expansion board's as you get much faster transfer rates.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Does the job. This adaptor converted my 6-port storage controller on my motherboard (Asus Sabretooth 990FX R2.0) into a 10-port one. It's a much cheaper and reliable solution than buying a separate PCIE storage controller and it doesn't even need to take up a PCIE slot: I've secured mine in my computer's case, with cable ties. Well worth the money.

Questions & Answers

Lycom ST-172A/ST-126 compatibility

I already have a Lycom ST-126 set up with 5 x 1TB in RAID 5 and an spare cold 1TB so I'm cool if a disc fails however if the controller fails I am screwed. So my question is: Is the ST-172A disc compatible with the ST-126. As it has a faster SATA III interface I'd prefer to use this and keep the ST-126 as the reserve, so if I swap over the boards will the disc array be recognised by the ST-172A? Equally important if there is compatibility is it both ways so if the ST-172A was to fail, once reconnected would the ST-126 pick up the array correctly?
