Product Overview
Tiny little synth, Monster big noise!!
All you budding sound designers need look no further for a starter synth or as a portable unit to work on, this is portable analogue synthesis at its best….
Screechy, clangy, schwirly, bells, whistles & robots, all these sounds are available via the Dual oscillators and the X-Mod controller allowing cross modulation for complex synth sounds…..
Korg puts the thrill of analog synthesis into everyone’s hands. Announcing the new monotron DUO.
Analog anywhere: That was the idea behind the remarkable battery-powered and palm-sized analog synthesizer that Korg named the monotron. Now the powerful and fun-to-play monotron is joined by two new siblings. The Dual Oscillator monotron DUO offers X-MOD capabilities for generating even more raucous sounds. The monotron DELAY arrives with a Space Delay that can produce edgy, analog-like echo effects. Each is played from a ribbon controller keyboard with newly added features. The monotron’s easy to use operation (5 knobs and 1 switch) is alive and well, inviting hours of enjoyment and musical exploration.
In many ways, this is like owning a little piece of history. The Korg MS20 was around from 1978 until 1983, and was beloved by many of the 'synth' veterans of the day, and the VCF on the Monotron was taken directly from the Korg MS20.
Casual users and gadget lovers will quickly enjoy performing melodies, DJs can create cool effects on stage, while established players can add analog muscle to their arsenal – the possibilities are virtually unlimited. Grab yourself a monotron, monotron DUO, or monotron DELAY, and get in touch with the exciting world of analog synths.
Features Dual Oscillator / X-Mod Design
With two oscillators, the monotron DUO adds an extra dimension, delivering an even more extreme sound. You can tune both the oscillators in unison for a creamy analog tone. Tune them in thirds or fifths for classic soloing sounds and to generate new effects. The X-MOD (cross modulation) circuit was borrowed directly from Korg's classic Mono/Poly, and can introduce a mild or razor-sharp edge to the final sound; everything from a sonorous vibrato to extreme metallic sounds reminiscent of an FM synth.
Enhanced Ribbon Controller Keyboard
The ribbon controller keyboard on the Monotron now features the user friendly Scale function used on the KAOSSILATOR. This button gives you the option to select one of four scales: Chromatic, Major, Minor, or Off. Choose the Chromatic scale to play precise pitches as on a piano, or choose Major or Minor to generate musically coherent phrases by simply sliding your finger around on the keyboard.
Classic Korg Filtering
The distinctive tone of an analog filter (VCF) can dramatically alter and enrich the sound. The monotron DUO uses the same highly acclaimed VCF circuit as KORG's classic MS-10 and MS-20 semi modular synthesizers. Originally released over 30 years ago, these instruments are still coveted today for their aggressive, dynamic filters. The VCF Cutoff knob sets the frequency or tone of the filter; the VCF Peak knob adds emphasis. A powerful filter is an essential aspect of any analog synthesizer, applying dramatic tonal changes to the sound, and projecting an intense personality that will stand out in any live performance.
Fully-patchable Filter
The input jack (AUX input) built into the monotron DUO’s compact body allow you to place any audio source into the monotron DUO’s signal path, directly before the analog filter. This provides a great way to connect a KAOSSILATOR, a guitar, or a digital audio player to the monotron and enjoy tone-bending filter effects
Go Anywhere Analog
A miniature speaker is built into the monotron DUO. Along with the battery operation and compact size, this feature allows you to enjoy the share the monotron DUO’s analog synthesis sound with your friends, anywhere, at any time. There's also a headphone output that you can use when practicing in private, creating sounds at home, recording, or for connecting to an amplifier or PA system.
