Exceptional Performance
The Intel® Core™ i7 6700K boasts a 4.0 GHz base frequency and 4.2 GHz turbo frequency, the processor is also built on a 14 nm process, with a 91 W maximum TDP. The chip is a Quad-Core design with 8 threads. Integrated into the processor is Intel® HD Graphics 530 which delivers mainstream-level graphics with discrete-level performance and has full support for DirectX 12 API. Intel’s 6700K is fully unlocked allowing you to tune performance and obtain higher frequencies when used with Intel 100 series chipsets. Previous generation Intel processors such as the Intel® Core™ i7-4790K processor used DDR3 memory, typically running at 1600 or 2133MHz. The Core i7 6700K have an enhanced memory controller that supports DDR4 memory, giving you a very healthy performance boost over DDR3.

Intel® Core™ i7 is a brand name applies to several families of desktop and laptops, The Core™ i7 brand targets the business and high-end consumer markets for both desktop and laptop computers, and is distinguished from the enty-level Core™ i3 and the more mainstream Core™ i5.

Dramatic Increase in Media & Graphics
Intel® HD Graphics 530 can easily deliver an amazing visual experience in resolutions all the way up to Ultra HD 4K, so you can make the most of 4K displays. The Intel® Core™ i7 6700K also has support for the latest graphics APIs such as DirectX 12, this means that you will be able to run mainstream games and apps up to 2x better graphics than previous generation processors. Intel's on-board graphics processor is up to 28% faster than previous generation GPUs.

Intel Core i5 6600K and Core i7 6700K
Intel Core i5 6600K and Core i7 6700K
Date Issued: 26th Aug 2015

Intel generally follows a tick-tock philosophy for new processor launches. The tick represents a shrinking of the manufacturing process - 32nm to 22nm, for example - while the tock is indicative of a new architecture based on the leading process of that time. This has been the case since 2007.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from insane cpu i went with this OEM listing over the retail one because it was about £10 cheaper. the only difference is the packaging. the retail has a nice box with paperwork and the cpu in a plastic case. the OEM came in a little black cardboard box protected by non static foam. i have no need for a fancy box but i know some people like to display their boxes so you just need to decide if it's worth the extra money for the packaging. this cpu replaces my i5-4590. at stock it feels way much faster even during normal system use. programs noticeably open much quicker. it just generally makes everything much faster/smoother and more responsive. i managed to overclock to 4.4Ghz at 1.30V, 4.5GHz at 1.35V and at 4.6Ghz it was using 1.44V but it may be possible to lower that voltage. i haven't tested it fully yet. right now i'm running at 4.5Ghz 1.35V / DDR4 2933 1.35V very stable. temperature wise the CPU doesnt go over 76C when running Prime95 blend test (hyper 212x cooler). lowest it goes under normal use is about 25C although i have seen it go as low as 19C but this is after start up and before the system warms up. really happy with my purchase. if you're just gaming you could probably get away with an i5-6600K but i wanted to future proof as more and more games are requiring an i7. this cpu should last you years.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Capable processor As expected, Intel's i7 6700K is a fast - 4-core processor with the power to carry out many tasks, for a reasonable power consumption. With just 65W TDP (in a standard non-overclocked environment) it's economical, yet provides the opportunity to be over-clocked for those who need the extra speed.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great CPU with GPU built in Works well for me. I don't need a huge graphics capability so just went for this. I did notice the graphics stutter during speed tests on data transfer using my M.2 NVME card. Other than that its fast and works well with ASUS Z170 p MOBO and M.2 memory

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best one out there so far! This is my first purchase of an Intel i7 CPU, and I have to say, I am not disappointed. I use it for video editing and it performs like a dream with eight threads to utilize; it makes short work of rendering. I deliberately chose not to buy an alternate versions which included a cooler, as I have always hated the bog standard Intel offering, not to mention the fitting!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Works perfectly. No need for a nice box in my opinion.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Bought the OEM only to find out that retail version was being sold for less else where! This processor was listed as OEM and was about £30 cheaper than the retail version. OEM version is sold in a very basic cardboard packaging. The CPU itself was as expected, but was returned without opening the box as I found that retail version could be bought cheaper at another online site.

Questions & Answers

Does Intel Skylake i7-6700K include a cooling fan?

Intel used to provide fans but my last i7 did not include one.
Asked by: Roboman28
nope. with skylake intel stopped including cooling fans with K chips. this is because you really shouldn't be using their stock cooler when overclocking. you should look at getting a Hyper 212X at least which will let you easily overclock to 4.6Ghz while keep temps under 75C at 100% usage across 8 cores.

OEM vs non OEM

Is there any difference between OEM and non OEM version of this product. I've noticed a 30 pound difference in price, why exactly is that? I'm planning on purchasing this item in the close future. Thanks!
Asked by: Grabo
the difference is the packaging. if you don't care about it, like myself, get the OEM if it's cheaper (was £10 cheaper for me). my i7 came in a little black cardboard box with non static foam. the retail model comes in a fancy colourful box with paperwork and the CPU in a plastic case.
